Hello -- I love this pattern, but I'm not ready for Fair Isle knitting and steeking yet. Is this cardigan available as a plain knit pattern, with the fronts knit in separate pieces? Or is there an easy way to convert it to that? (I've been searching for a long time for a cardigan with set-in sleeves and a pretty collar such as this.) Thank you for any help, Robyn

Hej Mette, så skal du nok regne med 400 gram (men hellere et nøgle for meget end et for lidt ;) )

Gauge: 23 sts x 30 rows on larger needles in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm Garter st, when knitting flat: Knit all sts, all rows. Rib-1: * K 1, P 2 *, repeat from * - *. Rib-2: * K 1, P 1 *, repeat from * - *. Pattern: See charts. The pattern is seen from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette st. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Body: The cardigan is knit in the round after the rib with steeks cut for center front and armholes. The button bands are knit separately and sewn on. Cast on 291-327-363-399 sts on smaller circular needles with beige. Knit Rib-1 keeping 1 st at each edge in garter st, beginning rib with K 1. When band measures 4 cm dec every other P 2 ribs to P 1 (right side row) = 243-273-303-333 sts. When band measures 8 cmdec the remaining P 2 ribs to P 1 (right side row) = 195-219-243-267 sts. Continue in Rib-2 until band measures 12 cm. Change to larger circular needles and stockinette st, cast on 3 new sts at center front (these 3 sts + 2 edge sts = 5 steek sts which are not knit in the pattern) = 198-222-246-270 sts. Join and knit the next row as follows: 5 steek sts and 193-217-241-265 sts of Pattern 1. After Pattern 1 knit Pattern 2, then knit the rest with beige. When the piece measures 33-34-35-36 cm knit the next row as follows: 5 steek sts, 45-50-55-61 sts for the front, bind off 7-9-10-11 sts for armhole, 89-99-111-121 sts for the back, bind off 7-9-10-11 sts for armhole, 45-50-55-61 sts for the front. On the next row cast on 5 new sts over the bound-off armhole sts at each side (these 5 sts are for the armhole steek and are not knit in the pattern) = 194-214-236-258 sts. Now dec 1 st at each side of the 5 armhole steek sts at each side every other row a total of 3-7-11-15 times = 182-186-192-198 sts remain on needles. When the piece measures 46-48-49-51 cm bind off 15 sts (incl. 5 steek sts) at center front for neck = 167-171-177-183 sts remain. Knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Bind off at each neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2-2-2-3 times and 1 st 6-7-6-6 times = 141-143-151-153 sts remain. At the same time when the piece measures 52-54-56-58 cm bind off the center back 31-33-33-35 sts for the neck. Dec 1 st at each back neck edge every other row 2 times. Bind off the remaining 53-53-57-57 sts on each side (incl. 5 armhole steek sts) when the piece measures 54-56-58-60 cm . Sleeve: Cast on 72-72-84-84 sts on smaller double-pointed needles with beige; join and place a marker at the join. Knit Rib-1. When band measures 2 cm dec every other P 2 rib to P 1 = 60-60-70-70 sts. When band measures 4 cm dec the remaining P 2 ribs to P 1 = 48-48-56-56 sts. Continue in Rib-2 until band measures 7 cm. Change to larger circular needles, knit 3 rows stockinette st, then knit Pattern 2 - on row 1 of Pattern 2 replace natural white with beige - center the pattern on the sleeve. After Pattern 2 knit with beige to finished measurements. At the same time when the piece measures 8-8-9-9 cm inc 1 st each side of marker 25-27-25-28 times: Size S: every 4 rows. Sizes M +L: alternately every 3rd and 4th row. Size XL: every 3 rows = 98-102-106-112 sts. When the piece measures 46-44-42-40 cm bind off 3 sts each side of marker and knit the rest back and forth on needles. Then put sts on a st holder for sleeve cap at each side every other row: 2 sts 3-2-1-1 time, 1 st 12-17-20-24 times, then 2 sts at each side until the piece measures 58 cm, then put 3 sts on st holders at each side 1 time. The piece measures approx. 59 cm. Put all sts from st holders back on needles and knit reverse stockinette st for 2 cm, increasing 20 sts evenly distributed on first row for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body. Assembly: Sew a marker thread in the center of the steek sts on either side and at the center front. Sew two machine seams around the marker thread, 1st seam = 1/2 st from the marker thread, 2nd seam = 1/2 st from first seam. Cut steeks for armholes and at the center front. Left Button band: Cast on 9 sts on smaller needles with beige and knit Rib-2 keeping 1 st at each side in garter st throughout and begin rib with K 1 (right side row). Bind off when band measures approx. 45-47-48-50 cm (the button band should be a little shorter than the front to keep the front from stretching). Right button band: Knit the same as the left but make buttonholes. 1 buttonhole = bind off the center st and on the next row yo over the bound off st. Make buttonholes when band measures: Size S: 9, 16, 23, 30, 37 and 44 cm Size M: 9, 16, 24, 31, 39 and 46 cm Size L: 10, 17, 25, 32, 40 and 47 cm. Size XL: 10, 18, 26, 34, 42 and 49 cm Sew button bands to front edge using the garter st edge sts as seam allowance. Sew a strip of bias tape or ribbon over the cut edge. Or, pick up sts with beige on smaller needles in the garter st edge sts of button bands, knit 3 rows stockinette st and bind off. Lay over cut edge and sew in place invisibly. Collar: Pick up on smaller needles with beige approx. 101 to 119 sts (divisible by 2 + 1 st) around the neck (including over button bands). Knit Rib-2 keeping 1 st in garter st at each edge and begin rib with K 1 (so that the rib lines up with button bands). When the collar measures 3 cm inc every other P 1 rib to P 2 (right side row as seen when the collar is folded down in place). When the collar measures 6 cm inc the remaining P 1 ribs to P 2 (right side row) = 151 to 178 sts. Continue with Rib-1. At the same time when the collar measures 8 cm change to grey-blue Alpaca. Knit 1 cm more in Rib-1, then bind off in rib. Assembly: Sew in sleeves. There will be a slight puff at the top of the sleeve – gather the excess fabric over approx. 6 cm. Lay the seam allowance over the cut edge on Body and sew in place. Sew on buttons. |
