Just wondering about the neck edge. Moss stitch is worked over the middle stitches for approximately 1 cm before casting them off and the shoulders worked separate for 25 stitches for another 2 to 4 cm for the small size. Are a few stitches on the neck edge for those shoulder pieces worked in moss stitch also? It would otherwise appear as a raw edge and might not look nice. Please advise. Thank you.
27.03.2024 - 05:34DROPS Design answered:
Dear Elsie, the pattern tells you to knit moss stitch on the middle 48-52-54-56-58-60 stitches, then a few rowes later you cast off the middle 42-44-46-48-50-52 stitches. You now have 3-4-4-4-4 stitches with moss stitch on eash side of the neck. Then the pattern tells you to "continue the remaining stitches in pattern as before", which means the stocking stitches with stocking stitches, moss stitch as moss stitches. I hope this helps. Happy Knitting.

Is the gauge for the smaller needle? Since that is the size for the most fitted part of the sweater, that is my guess.
26.02.2024 - 19:46DROPS Design answered:
Dear Elizabeth, yes, the gauge is calculated with the 3mm needles. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 to A.3. INCREASE TIP (evenly): To calculate how to increase evenly, use the total number of stitches on row (e.g. 204 stitches) and divide stitches by number of increases to be done (e.g. 12) = 17. In this example increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. every 17th stitch. On next round work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. MOSS STITCH: 1st ROW: *Knit 1, purl 1*, repeat from *-*. 2nd ROW: Knit over purl and purl over knit. Repeat row 2. INCREASE TIP-2 (applies to sleeves): Increase 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 1 stitch remains before marker thread, make 1 yarn over, work 2 stitches as before (marker thread is in the middle of these stitches), make 1 yarn over. On next round work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Work jumper in the round on circular needle, from the bottom up, and up to armholes. Now divide the piece; finish each part separately. Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles/circular needle. BODY: Cast on 204-228-252-276-300-324 stitches on circular needle size 4 mm with Baby Merino. Knit 1 round. Then work A.1 over all stitches (= 17-19-21-23-25-27 repetitions of 12 stitches). Work A.1 1 time vertically. Switch to circular size 3 mm, and continue with A.2 over all stitches, AT THE SAME TIME increase 12 stitches evenly on first round - read INCREASE TIP = 216-240-264-288-312-336 stitches on needle. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Now work 18-20-22-24-26-28 repetitions of A.2 in width. When A.2 has been worked 1 time vertically, continue with A.3 over all stitches (= 18-20-22-24-26-28 repetitions of 12 stitches). Continue pattern like this. Work until piece measures 25-26-27-28-29-30 cm from cast-on edge. Work next round as follows: Cast off the first 4 stitches on round, work the next 100-112-124-136-148-160 stitches, cast off the next 8 stitches, work the next 100-112-124-136-148-160 stitches, cast off the last 4 stitches. Work front pieces and back piece back and forth separately from here. BACK PIECE: = 100-112-124-136-148-160 stitches. Continue in A.3 stitch as before. Cast off for armhole in each side, cast off at the beginning of every row from right and wrong side as follows: 3 stitches 1-1-2-2-3-3 times, 2 stitches 1-2-3-5-5-7 times and 1 stitch 1-3-3-4-6-7 times= 88-92-94-96-98-100 stitches. Continue until piece measures 43-45-47-49-51-53 cm. Work MOSS STITCH over the middle 48-52-54-56-58-60 stitches, continue the remaining stitches in pattern as before – read explanation above. When piece measures 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm, cast off the middle 38-42-44-46-48-50 stitches for neck, and finish each shoulder separately = 25-25-25-25-25-25 stitches remain on each shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 46-48-50-52-54-56 cm (= 21-22-23-24-25-26 cm from cast-off for armholes). FRONT PIECE: = 100-112-124-136-148-160 stitches. Continue in A.3 stitch as before. Cast off for armhole in each side, cast off at the beginning of every row from right and wrong side: 3 stitches 1-1-2-2-3-3 times, 2 stitches 1-2-3-5-5-7 times and 1 stitch 1-3-3-4-6-7 times= 88-92-94-96-98-100 stitches. Continue until piece measures 41-43-45-47-49-51 cm. Work moss stitch over the middle 48-52-54-56-58-60 stitches, continue the remaining stitches in pattern as before. When piece measures 42-44-46-48-50-52 cm, cast off the middle 38-42-44-46-48-50 stitches for neck, and finish each shoulder separately = 25-25-25-25-25-25 stitches remain on each shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 46-48-50-52-54-56 cm (= 21-22-23-24-25-26 cm from cast-off for armholes). SLEEVES: Work sleeves in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 84-84-84-96-108-108 stitches on double pointed needles size 4 mm with Baby Merino. Knit 1 round. Insert 1 marker thread at beginning of round (= mid under sleeve). Work A.1 over all stitches (= 7-7-7-8-9-9 repetitions of 12 stitches). When A.1 has been worked 1 time vertically, change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Now, continue with A.2, when A.2 has been worked 1 time vertically, work A.3 until finished measurements. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 6-6-6-5-5-5 cm, increase 1 stitch on each side of marker thread. Increase every 4-2-1-1-2-1 cm 2-5-8-7-4-7 times in total – read INCREASE TIP-2 = 88-94-100-110-116-122 stitches. When piece measures 17-16-15-15-15-13 cm, cast off 8 stitches mid under sleeve (= 4 stitches on each side of marker thread). Work piece back and forth on circular needle until finished measurements. Continue with A.3, and cast off for sleeve cap in each side, at the beginning of every row from right and wrong side as follows: 3 stitches 1 time, 2 stitches 2-2-2-3-3-3 times, 1 stitch 8-10-12-10-11-16 times. Then cast off 2 stitches in each side until piece measures 26-26-27-27-28-28 cm, cast off 3 stitches 1 time in each side, cast off 4 stitches 1 time in each side, then cast off the remaining stitches. Piece measures approx. 27-27-28-28-29-29 cm. Work another sleeve the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. |
