Hi, could you tell me how long it will take me to knit the beanie? Im a relatively good knitter? thx lyn
13.05.2013 - 16:58DROPS Design answered:
Dear Lyn. I can't tell you that exactly. It depends on how fast you knit generally. How long does it usually take for you to knit a hat? It's not a difficult project, so if you are skilled it shouldn't take too long. Happy knitting!

Wish I could work out how to combine these into a single hood with shoulder cape - like the wore in medieval times. Maybe some clever person could design one!

Hi, this is to inform you that there is a mistake in DROPS 122-26 pattern. The charts show that the small crosses in the upper part should be knitted with BROWN while it should be WHITE obviously. Greetings from Poland. C.

Dear Cathliin, thank you for noticing, diagram text has been edited. Happy knitting!

DROPS 122-26 |
|||||||||||||
PATTERN: See diagram M.1 for hat and M.2 for neck warmer – both diagrams are worked in stocking st and show 1 pattern repeat. DECREASING TIP (applies to neck warmer): Make all dec from RS by K2 tog. Dec alternately before and after all markers. -------------------------------------------------------- HAT: Worked in the round. Cast on 90 sts on circular needle size 3.5 mm with medium brown. Work rib, K3/P3, for 10 rounds. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm and continue in M.1 – AT THE SAME TIME on round 1 inc 6 sts evenly = 96 sts (= 8 repeats of M.1). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! After M.1 continue in red. When piece measures 17 cm insert 8 markers in piece with 12 sts between each On next round dec 1 st after all markers by K2 tog. Repeat the dec on every other round a total of 6 times, then on every round 5 times = 8 sts (change to double pointed needles when sts no longer fit circular needle). Cut the thread, pull it through remaining sts and fasten. Hat measures approx 24 cm. -------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER: Worked in the round from bottom edge towards the top. Cast on 234-258-282 sts on circular needle size 3.5 mm with medium brown. Insert a marker at beg of round = the side. Work 8 rounds rib, K3 / P3. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm, K 1 round, at the same time dec 18 sts evenly (i.e. work tog approx every 13/14-14/15-15/16 st) = 216-240-264 sts. Continue in M.2 (= 18-20-22 repeats across the round). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! After M.2 piece measures approx 13 cm and there are 198-220-242 sts on needle. READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING SECTION BEFORE CONTINUING! Continue with red and in stocking st until finished measurements – work next round as follows (from marker at the side): Work 49-54-60 sts, cast off 2 sts (= mid front) work remaining sts on round to mid front – AT THE SAME TIME on this round insert 11 markers in piece as follows: First marker 18-19-20 sts after the 2 sts cast off and then 16-18-20 sts between the remaining markers. After the last marker there are 18-19-20 sts. Now complete piece back and forth on needle from mid front, and dec for raglan by all markers and for neck at the same time - see below. DEC FOR NECKLINE: Dec at beg of every row: 1 st 13 times each side. RAGLAN: On first row from RS after markers were inserted: dec 1 st after all markers – SEE DECREASING TIP! Repeat the dec on every 4th row a total of 3 times and then on every other row 9-11-13 times. NOTE: as you go along dec for neck will be made past first marker each side, then only dec for raglan by the remaining 9 markers. After all dec there are approx 44 to 54 sts left on needle. Work 1 row, at the same time dec evenly to 29-31-33 sts. Piece now measures approx 25-27-29 cm. Slip sts on a stitch holder. COLLAR: Pick up sts with medium brown on circular needle size 3.5 mm. Beg mid front and pick up 34 to 40 sts along right side of neckline, then work the 29-31-33 sts from stitch holder in on needle, pick up 34 to 40 sts down the other side of neckline = 97 to 113 sts. K 1 row, at the same time inc evenly to 117-129-141 sts. Continue as follows (from RS): 3 garter sts, * K3, P3 *, repeat from *-* and finish with K3 and 3 garter sts. When collar measures approx 3 cm make a buttonhole as follows at beg of next row from RS: Work 3 garter sts, K2 tog, make 1 YO and continue as before. Repeat when collar measures approx 8 cm. When collar measures 12 cm cast off with K over K and P over P. Sew on buttons to fit buttonholes. |
