Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. INCREASE TIP: Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over which is knitted twisted on the next round to avoid a hole. DECREASE TIP: Start 3 stitches before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- MITTENS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles. RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on 40-40 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm, 1 strand DROPS Soft Tweed and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk. Knit 1 round. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round. Work rib as follows: * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* 4 more times, knit 2, work A.1, knit 2, purl 2. Work this rib for 5 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 4 mm and work the next round as follows: Knit and decrease 4 stitches evenly over the first 22 stitches, A.2 over A.1, knit and decrease 1 stitch over the last 4 stitches = 35-35 stitches. Knit 18 (palm), work A.2, knit 3. Continue this pattern. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 11-12 cm, increase 1 stitch on each side of the first stitch on the round (thumb-stitch) – read INCREASE TIP! Increase like this every 2nd round 4-5 more times = 45-47 stitches. Place the 11-13 thumb-stitches on 1 thread. Continue the pattern in the round and cast on 1 stitch behind the thumb = 35-35 stitches. Work until the mitten measures approx. 24½-26½ cm (try the mitten on, there is 3½ cm left to finished length). Insert 1 marker-thread after the first 17 stitches and 1 marker-thread after the next 17 stitches (1 stitch left after the second marker-thread). Knit all stitches and decrease 1 stitch on each side of both marker-threads – read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this, every 2nd round, 2 more times then every round 3 times = 11 stitches. Cut the strands, pull them through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. THUMB: Place the 11-13 stitches from the thread on double pointed needles size 4 mm. Knit up 4-3 stitches behind the thumb = 15-16 stitches. Knit in the round until the thumb measures 4½-5 cm (try the mitten on, there is ½ cm left to finished length). Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 on the next 2 rounds = 4-4 stitches. Cut the strands, pull them through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. LEFT MITTEN: Cast on and work in the same way as the right mitten but in reverse, i.e., work the rib as follows: Knit 2, purl 2, work A.1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* 4 more times, purl 2. Work this rib for 5 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 4 mm and work the next round as follows: Knit and decrease 1 stitch over the first 4 stitches, work A.2 over A.1, knit and decrease 4 stitches evenly over the last 22 stitches. Work then as follows: knit 3, A.2, knit 18 (palm). Increase for the thumb on each side of the last stitch on the round. Before decreasing at the top of the mitten, insert the first marker-thread after the first stitch on the round and the second marker-thread after the next 17 stitches (17 stitches left after the second marker-thread). |
