Bon tricot!

Hi! I’m finally up to knitting the hood. I have picked up the stitches, knitted one row around. I understand knit 2 together yarn over for the next row, but the instructions after that are extremely confusing! “ Knit the next row, decreasing 0-4-8-10 sts evenly distributed on the row” I don’t understand what this means! Can you help please?
29.12.2020 - 06:41DROPS Design answered:
Hi Cleonie, You knit a complete row with the increases worked evenly on the row. So for example, if you are working size M and have 78 stitches on the row, you increase increase 1 stitch after approx. every 19th stitch (a total of 4 stitches increased). Happy knitting!

If I choose to omit the Vienna and knit only with the boucle, will the quantity of wool required increase?

Dear Cle, you will need to get the same tension (and texture) - read more about alternatives here; your DROPS store will assist you choosing an alternative and with the amount of new yarns - even per mail or telephone. Happy knitting!

Buon lavoro!

DROPS Poncho in Vienna and Ull-Bouclé.
DROPS 67-11 |
|
Gauge: 10 sts x 15 rows on larger needles with 1 strand each Vienna and Ull-Bouclé in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm Garter st, when knitting flat: Knit all sts, all rows. Knitting tips (for hood): All decs are made on right side rows. After 3 edge sts: slip 1, K 1, psso. Before 3 edge sts: K 2 tog. Poncho: The poncho is knit in 2 pieces from neck down, and sewn together at sides. Front: Cast on 37-41-45-49 sts on larger circular needles with 1 strand each Vienna and Ull-Bouclé. Knit stockinette st, keeping 1 st at each edge in garter st throughout. After 2 rows put a marker in center st. Inc 1 st each side of center st every other row until piece measures approx. 64-66-68-70 cm = approx. 133-141-147-155 sts. Change to smaller circular needles and knit 4 rows garter st, continuing to inc every other row. Bind off. Back: Cast on and knit the same as the front. Assembly: Sew side seams using edge sts as seam allowance. Hood: Pick up 70-78-86-94 sts around the neck on larger circular needles with 1 strand each Vienna and Ull-Bouclé; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 1 row over all sts, then knit the next row as follows: * K 2 tog, yo *, repeat from * *. Knit the next row, decreasing 0-4-8-10 sts evenly distributed on the row - but do not dec over the 20 sts at center back = 70-74-78-84 sts. On the next row, P the 8 sts at center front, K the rest of the sts, increasing 8-6-4-0 sts over the 20 sts at center back = 78-80-82-84 sts. Bind off 2 sts at center front (in the center of the 8 P sts from previous row) and knit the rest back and forth on needles from center front. Continue with stockinette st, but keep 3 sts at each side at the center front in garter st throughout. Dec 1 st at each side inside of 3 edge sts 10-11-11-12 times every other row - see knitting tips = 56-56-58-58 sts. Knit until hood measures 35-35-36-36 cm. Put 28-28-29-29 sts on a separate needle, fold the hood in half and Kitchener st the two halves together. Twisted cord: Cut a strand of Ull-Bouclé approx. 6 m long, fold double. Fasten one end to a stationary object, the other to a knitting needle. Twist until cord is tightly wound, then fold in middle and let cord twist up on itself. Knot ends. Thread through holes in neckline, from center front. Make 2 pompoms approx. 4 cm in diameter. Fasten to each end of twisted cord. |
