Hi! Would like to make this scarf wider. How many multiple of stitches would be ok to cast on. Would 21 or 25 stitches work with this pattern or any odd number of stitches for that matter. Finally am getting around to making this scarf.
28.10.2022 - 19:10DROPS Design answered:
Dear Sharon, the number of stitches to cast on must be a multiple of 2, +1, and +2. So yes, 25 or 21 should be good enough, or any odd number of stitches. Happy knitting!

Hi, would like to make this scarf 🧣 for a child but the yarn used in this pattern is itchy. Her own words is that it sticks. What substitute would you recommend? Thanks 🙏 for your response.
16.10.2022 - 13:01DROPS Design answered:
Dear Sharon, this is a 100% wool yarn. Another yarn that could be used for this pattern is DROPS Wish, but if the child is sensitive to wool this yarn may also be itchy to her. Another solution is to work with 2 threads of Merino ExtraFine, which has been treated to be used even for sensitive people and babies; or 2 threads of Air. Happy knitting!

Bedankt.

HAT: Knitting Tension: 11 sts x 15 rows on needles size 8 mm in stocking sts. = 10 x 10 cm. Garter sts (back and forth on needles): Knit all rows Stripy pattern: See diagram M.1, if more space when finish with the pattern continue with red until finish. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Earflaps: Cast on 4-4-5 sts with red and needles size 8 mm. K 1 row from the wrong side and continue with M.1 ( see explanation above) in stocking sts and 1 edge sts in garter sts each side - at the same time inc 1 st each side from the right side as follows: Make a yo inside the edge st each side –twist and knit the yo on the returning row, to avoid a hole – inc 1 st each side on every other row 4 times = 12-12-13 sts. Remember the knitting tension. Continue in stocking sts and 1 edge st in garter st each side until the flap measures 6-7-8 cm. Put aside and knit another one. Hat: Knit in one of the earflaps on needle size 8 mm, cast on 8-10-11 new sts (= the back) and knit in the other earflap on to the same row = 32-34-37 sts. Knit the next row from the wrong side as follows (continue with M.1): 1 garter st, P 10-10-10 sts, K 10-12-13 sts, P 10-10-10 sts and 1 garter st. Continue in stocking sts with 1 edge st each side in garter sts – at the same time inc 1 st each side as done for the earflaps, a total of 2 times = 36-38-41 sts. On the next row cast on 12-14-15 sts in between the earflaps for the front part = 48-52-56 sts. Now do all measures from this point onwards. Now knit the hat round on double pointed needles size 8 mm as follows: On the 1st round P the new 12-14-15 sts at the front (continue to knit the other sts in stocking sts), then continue to knit in stocking sts over all sts. When the piece measures 13-15-17 cm bind off evenly distributed on every other row: 6-6-6 sts 3 times and 6-7-8 sts 4 times = 6 sts left, cut the thread and pull it through the remaining sts. Sew tight. The hat measures approx. 21-23-25 cm from the centre front and to the top. Sew red slanting sts along the bottom edge of the hat – each stitch should be 2 sts in the width and 4 rows in the height. Pompons: Sew 1 red pompom at the top of each earflap. The pompoms should be approx. 6 cm in diameter. --------------------------------------------------------------------- SCARF: Knitting Tension: 9 sts x 22 rows on needles size 8 mm in English rib = 10 x 10 cm. English rib: 1st row (right side): 1 edge st in garter sts, *K1, make a yo, slip 1 st as if to purl*, repeat from *-* until 2 sts left on row, finish with K1 and 1 edge st in garter sts. 2nd row (wrong side): 1 edge st in garter sts, *make a yo, slip 1 st as if to purl, K the next st and the yo tog.*, repeat from *-* until 2 sts left on row, finish with a yo, slip 1 st as if to purl and 1 edge st in garter sts. 3rd row (right side): 1 edge st in garter sts, * K the next st and the yo tog, make a yo, slip 1 st as if to purl*, repeat from *-* until 2 sts left on row, finish with K tog the next st and the yo and 1 edge st in garter sts. Repeat the 2nd and 3rd row. Scarf: Cast on 13-15-17 sts on needles size 8 mm and lilac. Knit English rib – see explanation above. Knit 5 stripes each measuring 22-26-30 cm in the following order: lilac, red, orange, olive and turquoise. The scarf measures approx. 110-130-150 cm, bind off loosely. |
