Bon tricot !

If you are making size M/L you knit next row after 4 rows in garter like this from RS: 3 sts in garter = K 3, then follow diagram M.1 which is K6 sts, then 18 sts in garter = K18 Next row after this from WS: 18 sts in garter = K 18, then follow diagram M.1 which is P6, then 3 sts in garter = K3.

DROPS Mittens with cable pattern in Snow
DROPS 98-4 |

Knitting Tension: 10 sts x 21 rows on needles size 9 mm in garter sts = 10 x 10 cm. Garter sts (back and forth on row): Knit all rows. Increasing tips: Inc by making a yo. On the returning row knit into back of yo to avoid making a hole. Right mitten: Knitted back and forth on needle and sewn tog at the side afterwards. Cast on 24-27 sts on needle size 9 mm in Snow and knit 4 rows in garter sts. Knit next row as follows from the RS: 2-3 sts in garter sts, M.1 (= 6 sts), 16-18 sts in garter sts. Continue pattern like this until piece measures 12 cm. Now dec 4 sts evenly on row = 20-23 sts (do not dec over the first 8-9 sts seen from the RS). Knit another 4-6 rows in pattern as before and insert a marking thread in the 11th-13th st. Now inc 1 st on each side of the marking thread for thumb on every other row a total of 3 times - see Increasing tips = 7 thumb sts (= a total of 26-29 sts on row). Put the 7 thumb sts on a thread. Cast on 1 new st over sts on the thread = 20-23 sts. Continue until piece measures 24-27 cm. Now knit all sts tog 2 by 2 = 10-12 sts. Cut the thread and pull it through remaining sts. Sew tight. Thumb: Put the 7 thumb sts back on needle, cast on 1 new st each side = 9 sts. Knit 5-6 cm in garter sts. Knit tog all sts 2 by 2 = 5 sts. Cut the thread, pull it through remaining sts and sew tight. Left mitten: Cast on and knit as right mitten, but reversed (i.e. insert the marking thread in the 10th-11th st). Assembly: Sew the side seam in the outer most loops to avoid a chunky seam. Sew the thumb seam in the same way. Lace border: Cast on 4 sts and knit as follows: 1st row: K2, make 2 yo, K2 2nd row: K 2 sts in the first st, K2, P1 (in second yo), K2 3rd row: K7 4th row: Cast off 3 sts, K4. Repeat row 1-4 until the border measures approx 24-27 cm (measured on the shorter side). Cast off. Sew the border tog to form a ring and sew it to the mitten’s upper edge with the “spikes” pointing upwards. |
