For the front and back, to work them separately, do I to put the “back piece” stitches onto a spare piece of yarn, then complete the front piece, then pick the back piece stitches up off the string and continue working the back, and all of that is done flat? So instead of knit stitches in the round, it’s knit flat, back and forth, one row K and one row P (with the bind offs along the Way) Apologies, trying my best to learn.

Dear Mel, that's correct, up to the armholes you work the piece in the round. Then, you divide for the front and back pieces. You work one of them back and forth (flat) while the other piece is left on a thread or stitch holder. After finishing that piece, you slip the stitches of the other piece back onto the needles and work back and forth the second piece. The stocking stitch in the round is: Knit all rounds. The stocking stitch back and forth = knit from the right side and purl from the wrong side. Happy knitting!

The yarn Wish is discontinued. Can you let me know how many metres are need to complete this pattern so I can substitute another yarn. Thank you.
07.09.2026 - 11:26DROPS Design answered:
Hi Julie, The yarn Wish belonged to yarn group E (50 g balls, approx. 70 metres ). Any of our other yarns in yarn group E have the same weight, thickness and meterage as Wish and can be substituted in this pattern, Regards, Drops Team.

09.03.2024 - 09:55DROPS Design answered:
Hei Amalie. Jo, du har 32 masker, så skal det felles til ermhull 1 maske 3 ganger på begynnelsen av HVER pinne. Så når du skal felles på begynnelsen av hver pinne, må du felle både fra retten og fra vrangen. 1 maske 3 ganger = 3 masker i hver side = 6 masker. 32 masker - 6 masker = 26 masker etter fellingene. mvh DROPS Design

Are some of the stitch numbers incorrect for the shoulders on the back piece: On the next row cast off the middle 6-8-8-8-10-10 stitches for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately (= 7-8-9-10-10-11 stitches on each shoulder). On the piece you have 20-22-24-26-28-30 stitches so assuming the cast of stitch numbers are correct should the shoulders not be 7-7-8-9-9-10 stitches on each shoulder
27.01.2022 - 13:07DROPS Design answered:
Dera Mrs Sellar, correct, there was a mistake in the English pattern, thanks for noticing. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CASTING-OFF TIP: To avoid the cast-off edge being tight you can cast off with a larger size needle. If the edge is still tight, make 1 yarn over after approx. each 4th stitch at the same time as casting off; the yarn overs are cast off as normal stitches. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up as far as the armholes. Then the front and back pieces are finished separately, back and forth. Ribbed edges are worked around the neck and armholes to finish. BODY: Cast on 64-68-72-76-80-84 stitches with circular needle size 8 mm and DROPS Wish. Knit 1 round, then work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 3 cm. Change to circular needle size 9 mm. Work stocking stitch until the piece measures 16-18-21-24-27-30 cm. Now cast off stitches for the armholes as follows: Cast off the first 3 stitches, work the next 26-28-30-32-34-36 stitches, cast off 6 stitches, work the next 26-28-30-32-34-36 stitches and cast off the last 3 stitches = 26-28-30-32-34-36 stitches on the back and front pieces. Each piece is finished separately. FRONT PIECE: Work stocking stitch back and forth – AT THE SAME TIME cast off for the armholes at the beginning of each row as follows: 1 stitch 3 times on each side = 20-22-24-26-28-30 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 26-29-33-36-40-43 cm. On the next row place the middle 6-6-6-6-8-8 stitches on a thread for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately (= 7-8-9-10-10-11 stitches on each shoulder). Continue with stocking stitch and cast off on each row from the neck as follows: 1 stitch 1-2-2-2-2-2 times = 6-6-7-8-8-9 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 33-36-40-44-48-52 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. BACK PIECE: Work stocking stitch back and forth – AT THE SAME TIME cast off for the armholes at the beginning of each row as follows: 1 stitch 3 times on each side = 20-22-24-26-28-30 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 30-33-37-41-45-49 cm. On the next row cast off the middle 6-8-8-8-10-10 stitches for the neck and each shoulder is finished separately (= 7-7-8-9-9-10 stitches on each shoulder). Continue with stocking stitch. Cast off 1 stitch on the next row from the neck = 6-6-7-8-8-9 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 33-36-40-44-48-52 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams edge to edge, in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so the seam is flat. ARMHOLE-EDGES: Start from the right side at the bottom of the armhole and knit up 40 to 48 stitches inside 1 stitch around the armhole, using double pointed needles/short circular needle size 8 mm and DROPS Wish (stitch number should be divisible by 4). Make sure the edge is not tight (on the other hand, you don’t want too many stitches so the edge rolls outwards). Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 2 ½ cm. Loosely cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – read CASTING-OFF TIP! Work the other armhole-edge in the same way. NECK: Knit up 32 to 52 stitches (including the stitches from the thread) with double pointed needles/short circular needle size 8 mm and DROPS Wish (stitch number should be divisible by 4). Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 2 ½ cm. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl – remember CASTING-OFF TIP! |
