Bon tricot!

Can you verify that this is a conversion error? After working A.2 it says "When the piece measures 22 cm = 7 3/4”..."

Dear Mrs Curry, you are right, measurements have been edited, thanks for your feedback. Happy knitting!

Hej.

Even with size US size 3 needle I'm getting 8 stitches to an inch. Is it ok to go to size US 4? I'm making it for a 3 year old.

Dear Mrs Craig, it looks like you have too few stitches for 10 cm/4" - have you tried with smaller needles? - read more about tension here. Happy knitting!

EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. The diagrams are worked in stocking stitch. DECREASE TIP: Decrease after each marker thread as follows: Slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 1 stitch decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: First a lining is worked, which is later folded up and sewn to the wrong side at the bottom of the hat, then a folding edge is worked before working pattern onwards. The hat is worked in the round with circular needle; change to double pointed needles when necessary. HAT: Cast on 96-102 (108-114-120) stitches with circular needle size 3 mm and red. Work A.1 (= 6 stitches) a total of 16-17 (18-19-20) times in width (= lining). When A.1 has been completed, the piece measures approx. 5 cm. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! The next round is worked as follows with off white: * Knit 2 together, 1 yarn over *, work from *-* over all stitches (= folding edge). Knit 1 round (the yarn overs are not knitted twisted). Then work A.2 (= 6 stitches) a total of 16-17 (18-19-20) times on the round. When A.2 has been completed, the piece measures approx. 13 cm (including 5 cm lining). The piece is now finished with red. When the piece measures 22 cm (including 5 cm lining; or continue to desired length, there is approx. 18-20 (20-23-25) cm left to work), work 1 round where you decrease 6-2 (8-4-0) stitches evenly on round = 90-100 (100-110-120) stitches. Then insert 10 marker threads in the piece with 9-10 (10-11-12) stitches between each one. On the next round decrease 1 stitch after each marker thread – read DECREASE TIP (= 10 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 8th round a total of 8-9 (9-10-11) times = 10 stitches. Work all stitches together 2 and 2 = 5 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, pull tight and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 40-42 (42-45-47) cm (including lining). ASSEMBLY: Fold the lining at bottom of hat onto the wrong side and sew down with red (sew onto a round of red). The hat measures approx. 35-37 (37-40-42) cm. POM POM: Make a pom pom with off white of approx. 4-6 cm in diameter and fasten to top of hat. |
