I have a question about the armhole shaping. in the directions it states that we are to cast off "every other row". So, do I cast off on the RS and then the WS, work a RS row again then cast off WS then RS. work a WS row etc.? Or cast off at the beginning of each row?
14.11.2019 - 20:36DROPS Design answered:
Hello Tamara! It works best if you cast off at the beginning of each row . Happy knitting!

Please help. I don't understand what the "14 and" refers to in this line of the pattern: "When the piece measures 14 and 28 cm inc 1 st at each side = 48-52-56-60-66 sts." Thank you.
31.10.2018 - 19:35DROPS Design answered:
Hi Katherine, It means that you increase 1 stitch on each side of the piece when the piece measures 14 cm and then again when it measures 28 cm. Happy knitting!

PULLOVER: Gauge: 10 sts x 16 rows on larger needles in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm. Front: Loosely cast on 42-46-50-54-60 sts on smaller needles and knit 4 rows garter st. Change to larger needles and stockinette st, keeping 2 sts at each side in garter st for the edge of the split. When the piece measures 8 cm end split – cast on 1 new st at each side (for edge sts) = 44-48-52-56-62 sts. Continue in stockinette st. When the piece measures 14 and 28 cm inc 1 st at each side = 48-52-56-60-66 sts. Read the entire next section before knitting: Armhole: When the piece measures 36-37-38-39-40 cm bind off for armhole at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 0-1-1-1-2 times and 1 st 1-1-2-4-4 times. Neck opening: At the same time when the piece measures 38-40-42-44-46 cm knit 2 rows garter st over the center 4 sts, then divide piece at center front for neck opening and knit each side separately. Put half the sts on a st holder. 1st side: Continue in stockinette st, keeping 2 sts in garter st at edge of neck opening. When the piece measures 49-51-53-57-59 cm put the outer 3-3-4-4-5 sts at neck edge on a st holder. Then bind off for the neck every other row: 2 sts 1 time and 1 st 2 times = 13 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 56-58-60-62-64 cm. 2nd side: Put sts back on needles and knit the same as the 1st side, reversing all shaping. Note: begin the 1st row from center front - start by picking up 1 st in the first st from the other side and knit together with the 1st st from st holder (this reinforces the lower edge of the split). Back: Cast on and knit the same as the front. Bind off for armhole as on front. When the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62 cm bind off the center 12-12-14-14-16 sts for the neck. On the next row dec 1 st at each neck edge = 13 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 56-58-60-62-64 cm. Sleeve: Cast on 26-26-28-28-30 sts on smaller needles and knit 4 rows garter st. Change to larger needles and stockinette st. When the piece measures 10 cm inc 1 st at each side every 7-5.5-5.5-4-3.5 cm a total of 6-7-7-9-9 times = 38-40-42-46-48 sts. When sleeve measures 48-47-46-45-43 cm bind off for sleeve cap at each side every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time and 1 st 2-3-4-5-6 times, then bind off 2 sts at each side until the piece measures 54-55-55-55-55 cm, then bind off 3 sts 1 time at each side. The piece measures approx. 55-56-56-56-56 cm, bind off the remaining sts. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Hood: Pick up approx. 36-44 sts around the neck (incl. sts on st holders) on circular needles. Knit stockinette st keeping 2 sts in garter st at each front edge. After 2 rows inc to 44-46-48-50-52 sts, evenly distributed across the row. Continue until the hood measures approx. 30-31-32-33-34 cm, divide sts onto 2 needles, fold hood double and Kitchener stitch 2 sides together. Cord for neck: Cut 2 strands of yarn approx. 3.5 meters long. Twist together until you get resistance, then fold in half and let the cord twist up on itself. Knot each end, the cord is approx. 120 cm long. Thread cord along neckband - start at front at top of split. Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams in one, using edge sts as seam allowance, down to opening to split. Sew 7 buttons around lower edge of each sleeve approx. 5 cm from lower edge. |
