I bought the wool but cannot work out the pattern. I get stucked at "Work 4 rows on all sts (remember shortened rows towards the toe – i.e. the opposite side of elevation)." A video showing how to work this step would b e very useful. I do not understand the anatomy of that sock as I have always knitted in the round.

Dear Gabrielle, after you have worked 2 rows over the 38 sts, work 2 rows over all sts, and 2 rows over all sts leaving 6 sts towards toe unworked (= a total of 4 rows and 2 short rows). you will have now worked all sts from the top of leg towards the toe - continue short rows towards toe every 2 ridges and dec for heel as explained. Work then "straight" for the instep part, then inc for heel and finish with the short rows for the opposite side of sock. Happy knitting!

Hej Christina.

KNITTING TIP: When turning mid piece tighten thread in order to avoid a hole in transition. ASSEMBLY TIP: The toes need to be tightened tog. Insert a thread in the outer loop of the outermost st towards the toe and let this thread follow piece. Use this thread to tighten toe tog. -------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- SOCK: Worked back and forth on needle from mid under foot, over the foot and then back towards mid under foot. The whole sock is worked in garter st, i.e. K all rows. TOE: Shortened rows: On 3rd and 4th row, i.e. on every other row worked towards the toes do not work all sts on row, but turn mid piece when 6 sts remain – see KNITTING TIP! Cast on 88-95-102 sts on needle size 4 mm with 1 thread of each colour. Now work elevation on the back of leg as follows (row 1 = RS): Work 8 sts, turn piece and work return row. Work 4 rows on all sts (remember shortened rows towards the toe – i.e. the opposite side of elevation). See ASSEMBLY TIP! Now dec for heel as follows (from RS): Insert a marker in st no 45-50-53 (from the side with elevation). Dec 1 st on each side of st with marker on every other row a total of 8 times = 72-79-86 sts. Work garter st back and forth on needle until piece measures 9-11-13 cm from the last HEEL DECREASE. Now inc for heel as follows: Insert a marker in st no 37-42-45 (from the side with elevation). Inc 1 st on each side of st with marker on every other row a total of 8 times = 88-95-102 sts. Work 4 rows on all sts (remember shortened rows towards the toe). Now work elevation on the back of leg as follows: Work 38 sts, turn piece and work return row. Work 31 sts, turn piece and work return row. Work 23 sts, turn piece and work return row. Work 16 sts, turn piece and work return row. Work 8 sts, turn piece and work return row. Slip all sts on a stitch holder. RIB: Work rib at the top of leg, back and forth on needle from mid back. Pick up 46-50-54 sts inside 1 st along the top of leg. K 1 row from WS and K 1 row from RS, AT THE SAME TIME inc 4 sts evenly = 50-54-58 sts. Continue in rib K2/ P2 with 1 edge st each side. When rib measures approx 5 cm cast off with K over K and P over P. ASSEMBLY: Tighten toe tog and fasten thread. Graft tog sts on stitch holder and cast on row. Sew rib tog mid back inside 1 edge st. The seam will sit mid under foot and up along the back of leg. |
