------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. DECREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced): To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 58 stitches) and divide by number of decreases to be made (e.g. 20) = 2.9. In this example decrease by knitting each 2nd and 3rd stitch together. INCREASE TIP (for sleeves): Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over between 2 stitches, on next row work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth with circular needle, bottom up. The whole piece is worked with 2 strands. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 58-62-66-70-74-82 stitches with circular needle size 6 mm and 2 strands Melody. Work rib starting from the right side as follows: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – see description above, * knit 2, purl 2 *, work from *-* until there is 1 stitch left on the row and work 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. Continue this rib for 2 cm. Work 1 row of stocking stitch where you decrease 20-22-22-24-24-26 stitches evenly spaced – read DECREASE TIP = 38-40-44-46-50-56 stitches. Change to circular needle size 12 mm and continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side until the piece measures 40-41-42-43-44-45 cm from the cast-on edge. Cast off 2-2-3-3-4-5 stitches for the armholes at the beginning of the next 2 rows = 34-36-38-40-42-46 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side until the piece measures 58-60-62-64-66-68 cm. Cast off with knit from the right side; make sure the cast-off edge is even and is not tight. BACK PIECE: Work as the front piece. SLEEVES: Cast on 30-30-34-34-38-38 stitches with circular needle size 6 mm and 2 strands Melody. Work rib, starting from the right side, as follows: 1 edge stitch in garter stitch, knit 1, * purl 2, knit 2 *, work from *-* until there are 4 stitches left, purl 2, knit 1 and finish with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. When the rib measures 6 cm in all sizes, work 1 row of stocking stitch where you decrease 12-12-14-14-16-16 stitches evenly spaced = 18-18-20-20-22-22 stitches. Change to circular needle size 12 mm and continue back and forth with stocking stitch and 1 edge stitch in garter stitch on each side until the piece measures 10 cm in all sizes. Now increase 1 stitch inside both edge stitches – read INCREASE TIP. Repeat this increase every 9-7½-7-6-6-4½ cm a total of 5-6-6-7-7-8 times = 28-30-32-34-38-38 stitches. When the piece measures 50½-50½-49-49-48-45 cm insert a marker on each side of the sleeve (the sleeve cap is worked from here). Continue working until the sleeve measures 53-53-53-53-53-51 cm and cast off with knit from the right side. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: The neck should be approx. 20-22-23-23-24-24 cm in width; sew the shoulder seams over the outermost 9-9-10-11-12-14 stitches on each side. Sew the sleeves into the armholes inside the 1 edge stitch along the armholes. The sleeve caps (the top 2½-2½-4-4-5-6 cm from the markers) are sewn to the bottom of the armholes on the front and back pieces – see sketch. Sew the sleeve seams and side seams, in one go, inside the 1 edge stitch. |
