------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP-1: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT - from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from RIGHT SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE TIP-2: INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT- from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the back and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the front of the needle. INCREASE 1 STITCH TOWARDS LEFT – from WRONG SIDE: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the row below, pick up the strand from the front and purl through the stitch-loop that lies on the back of the needle. GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side. 1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows. GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): Alternately knit 1 round and purl 1 round. 1 ridge vertically = 2 rounds. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- VEST - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary. The piece is started back and forth, casting on stitches at the back of the neck and working the back piece top down, while increasing stitches on each side for the shoulders which become slightly diagonal. The back piece is worked as far as the armholes. The front piece is started in 2 sections, knitting up stitches along 1 back shoulder, working stocking stitch and increasing for the neckline. This is repeated on the other shoulder. The 2 front sections are joined when the neckline is finished and worked as far as the armholes. The front and back pieces are joined and the body is continued in the round. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck is worked in the round to finish. If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction. BACK PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth. Cast on 25-25-25-27-27-29-29 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Fiesta. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl. ROW 2 (right side): Read INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 3, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 3. ROW 3 (wrong side): Read INCREASE TIP-2. Purl 3, increase 1 stitch towards the right, purl until there are 3 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the left, purl 3. AFTER ROW 3: Work ROWS 2 and 3 a total of 5-6-7-7-8-9-10 times (10-12-14-14-16-18-20 rows worked). After the last increase there are 45-49-53-55-59-65-69 stitches. Insert 1 marker outermost on one side. The piece is now measured from here! Continue stocking stitch with 4 GARTER STITCHES on each side – read explanation above. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Work until the piece measures 6-7-7-8-9-10-10 cm from the marker and measured outermost down the armhole. Now increase for the armholes. INCREASE FOR ARMHOLES: ROW 1 (right side): Remember INCREASE TIP-1. Knit 5, increase 1 stitch towards the left, knit until there are 5 stitches left on the row, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit 5. ROW 2 (wrong side): Knit 4, purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 4. Work ROWS 1 and 2 a total of 6 times (12 rows worked) = 57-61-65-67-71-77-81 stitches. If necessary, continue working until the piece measures 10-11-11-12-13-14-14 cm from the marker, measured along the armhole, finishing with a row from the wrong side. Cut the strand, place the stitches on a stitch holder and work the left front piece along the left back shoulder as follows. LEFT FRONT PIECE: Find the left back shoulder as follows: Lay the back piece flat, right side up, with the stitch holder/thread towards you; left side of piece = left shoulder. Start from the right side by the neck on the left back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the armhole = 10-12-14-14-16-18-20 shoulder-stitches. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. Work the first row as follows from the wrong side: Knit 4, purl 6-8-10-10-12-14-16. Continue as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit. ROW 2 (wrong side): Knit 4, purl to end of row. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8-9 cm from the knitted-up row. Now increase for the neckline: ROW 1 (right side): Knit. ROW 2 (wrong side): Knit 4, purl to end of row, cast on 1 stitch. ROW 3 (right side): Knit. ROW 4 (wrong side): Knit 4, purl to end of row, cast on 2 stitches. ROW 5 (right side): Knit. ROW 6 (wrong side): Knit 4, purl to end of row, cast on 3 stitches = 16-18-20-20-22-24-26 stitches (next row from the right side). The neckline increases are finished. The piece measures approx. 8-8-9-9-10-10-11 cm from the marker. Approx. 2 cm of the neckline will lie on the back piece. Cut the strand, place the stitches on a stitch holder and work the right front piece along the right back shoulder as follows. RIGHT FRONT PIECE: Start from the right side by the armhole on the right back shoulder and knit up 1 stitch in each row worked, inside the outermost stitch as far as the neck = 10-12-14-14-16-18-20 shoulder-stitches. All measurements on the front piece are taken from this knitted-up row. Work the first row as follows from the wrong side: Purl 6-8-10-10-12-14-16, knit 4. Continue as follows: ROW 1 (right side): Knit. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 4. Work ROWS 1 and 2 until the piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8-9 cm from the knitted-up row. Now increase for the neckline: ROW 1 (right side): Knit to end of row, cast on 1 stitch. ROW 2 (wrong side): Purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 4. ROW 3 (right side): Knit to end of row, cast on 2 stitches. ROW 4 (wrong side): Purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 4. ROW 5 (right side): Knit to end of row, cast on 3 stitches. ROW 6 (wrong side): Purl until there are 4 stitches left, knit 4 = 16-18-20-20-22-24-26 stitches (next row from the right side). Do not cut the strand. The 2 front pieces are now joined. FRONT PIECE (right and left front pieces joined): From the right side: Knit the 16-18-20-20-22-24-26 stitches on the right front piece, cast on 13-13-13-15-15-17-17 stitches for the neckline, knit the 16-18-20-20-22-24-26 stitches on the left front piece = 45-49-53-55-59-65-69 stitches. Work stocking stitch with 4 garter stitches on each side until the piece measures 14-15-17-18-19-20-22 cm from the knitted-up row. If necessary, continue working until the piece measures 18-19-21-22-23-24-26 cm from the marker measured along the armhole, finishing with a row from the wrong side. Now the front and back pieces are joined for the body. BODY: Work the 57-61-65-67-71-77-81 stitches on the front piece as before, cast on 10-10-11-12-12-12-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve), work 53-57-61-63-67-73-77 stitches on the back piece as before, insert 1 marker here (beginning of round), knit the last 4 stitches on the back piece, cast on 10-10-11-12-12-12-12 stitches (mid-under the sleeve) = 134-142-152-158-166-178-186 stitches. Cut the strand. Begin the next round by the marker, before the 4 garter stitches on the back piece (this is so the garter stitches are continued neatly under each sleeve). Work as follows for 2 cm: Work 18-18-19-20-20-20-20 GARTER STITCHES (in the round) – read explanation above, knit 49-53-57-59-63-69-73, work 18-18-19-20-20-20-20 garter stitches, knit 49-53-57-59-63-69-73. After 2 cm, continue with stocking stitch across all stitches until the piece measures 29-30-33-36-37-41-47 cm from the cast-on edge mid-back. Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1), AT THE SAME TIME increase 28-30-30-32-34-34-36 stitches evenly on the first round = 162-172-182-190-200-212-222 stitches. When the rib measures 3 cm, cast off with rib. The vest measures approx. 32-33-36-39-40-44-50 cm from mid-back and 34-35-38-41-42-46-52 cm from the top of the shoulder. NECK: Change to circular needle size 3 mm. Start from the right side by 1 knitted-up row and knit up 72-72-74-78-80-86-88 stitches (inside 1 stitch) around the neckline. The stitch count must be divisible by 2. Work rib (knit 1 and purl 1) for 2½-2½-2½-3-3-3-3 cm. Cast off with rib. |
