------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- HEEL DECREASE: ROW 1 (= right side): Work until there are 5-5-6 stitches left, slip the next stitch, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over, turn the piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Work until there are 5-5-6 stitches left, slip the next stitch, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over, turn the piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Work until there are 4-4-5 stitches left, slip the next stitch, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over, turn the piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Work until there are 4-4-5 stitches left, slip the next stitch, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over, turn the piece. Continue decreasing like this (by working until there is 1 stitch less left before slipping 1 stitch) and until there are 10-10-10 stitches left on needle. . ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SOCK – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked with 1 strand of each quality = 2 strands. Work in the round with double pointed needles, from the top of the leg down to the heel. Then work the heel back and forth, before working the foot in the round again. SOCK: Cast on 44-44-48 stitches with double pointed needles size 4.5 mm and 1 strand Fabel and 1 strand Brushed Alpaca Silk. Knit 1 round, then work rib (knit 2 /purl 2). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue with rib until the piece measures 16 cm. Now keep the first 18-18-22 stitches on the needle for the heel (the first 2 and last 2 of these stitches are knitted), place the last 26-26-26 stitches on 1 thread (= mid top of foot). Work stocking stitch back and forth over the heel stitches for 5-5½-6 cm – AT THE SAME TIME on row 1 decrease 0-0-2 stitches evenly on row = 18-18-20 stitches. Insert 1 marker – the piece is now measured from here. Then decrease for heel - read HEEL DECREASE! After the heel decrease knit up 10-10-11 stitches along one side of the heel (make sure that you knit up stitches around a whole stitch), place the 26-26-26 stitches from the thread back on the needles and knit as before over these stitches, knit up 10-10-11 stitches along the other side of the heel = 56-56-58 stitches on round. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 26-26-26 stitches on top of foot. Then continue with rib over the stitches on top of foot; the remaining stitches are worked in stocking stitch - AT THE SAME TIME decrease in each side as follows: The last 2 stitches before the stitches on top of foot are knitted twisted together (i.e. you work in the back loop of the 2 stitches rather than the front) and the first 2 stitches after the stitches on top of foot are knitted together. Decrease like this every 2nd round 10-8-7 times = 36-40-44 stitches. Continue with rib over the 26-26-26 stitches on top of foot and stocking stitch over the 10-14-18 stitches under the foot until the piece measures 18-20-22 cm from the marker on the heel (= 4-4-5 cm left). Now insert 1 marker on each side so that there are 18-20-22 stitches both on top and under the foot. Finish working in stocking stitch – AT THE SAME TIME as you decrease for the toe on each side of both markers. Decrease as follows when there are 3 stitches left before the marker: Knit 2 together, knit 2 (the marker sits between these 2 stitches), knit 2 twisted together. Decrease in each side every 2nd round a total of 3-3-4 times and then every round 3-4-4 times = 12-12-12 stitches left on the needle. On the next round work all stitches together 2 and 2. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. Work another sock in the same way. |
