This is my third sweater ever and my first steek. I’m doing another sweater that is an adaptation of the cardigan version of this one. This time, I alternated colors for the steek rows. That will make it much easier to see when I use the sewing machine. On this one I also hand stitched with a back stitch and did a buttonhole stitch on the edges just to reinforce the cut edge out of paranoia. The sweater came out beautifully!

Hallo, I've almost finished this great jumper and am sewing it together. Unsure from picture if the right and left front bands in the split are supposed to meet in the middle or overlap. Can you tell me please? Thanks
09.02.2014 - 23:25DROPS Design answered:
Dear Siobhan, both front bands will overlap, pick up sts along each front piece (separately) and work border (M4, P1 from RS, 16 rows st st). Fold border double and sew on WS. Then sew borders at the bottom of split. Happy knitting!

Knitting tension: 20 sts x 26 rows on needle size 4 mm = 10 x 10 cm Edge: Knit M.4, P1 round (= folding edge), 16 round stocking sts. Rib: * K1, P1 * Pattern: Knit entire pattern in stocking sts. Body: Knit sweater on circular needles and cut up for armhole afterwards. Cast on 200 (208) sts on circular needle size 2.5 mm with grey and knit 5 cm rib. Change to circular needle size 4 mm and knit M.1 at the same time inc with 40 (44) sts evenly distributed on 1st row = 240 (252) sts. After M.1 continue knitting M.2 – at the same time when piece measures 34 (36) cm inc 5 sts on each side for armhole (these sts are to be cut up later and should not be knit into pattern). Remember knitting tension. When piece measures 39 (41) cm (regulate after M.2) knit M.3. At the same time when piece measures 46 (48) cm cast off middle 14 (14) sts front for split. Complete piece knitting back and forth on needle. After M.3 knit M.5 and then complete with grey – at the same time when piece measures 60 (62) cm cast off to shape neckline on every other row 13 (13) sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times. At the same time when piece measures 63 (65) cm cast off middle 44 (44) sts for back neck and cast off 2 sts to shape neckline on each side back. Cast off when piece measures 64 (66) cm Sleeve: Cast on 50 (50) sts on circular needle size 2.5 mm with grey and knit 5 cm rib. Change to circular needle size 4 mm at the same time inc 10 (10) sts evenly on 1st row = 60 (60) sts. Continuing, knit pattern (place a pattern repeat mid sleeve): M.4, M.6, M.2 until piece measures 43 (43) cm, then M.3 until complete measurement. At the same time after rib inc mid under arm on each side of middle st 1 st 32 (32) times alternating every * 3rd and 4th round * = 122 (124) sts. When piece measures 54 (54) cm, knit 2 cm stocking sts with WS out for folding edge over cutting edge on body. Cast off. Assembly: Sew in a marking thread down the middle of inc sts on each side. Sew two seams on sewing machine around marking thread, 1st seam = 1/2 sts from 1st st from thread, 2nd seam = 1/2 sts from 1st seam. Cut up for armhole. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx 30 sts along right front band on needle size 2.5 mm with grey and knit edge. Repeat on left front band. Double neckline towards WS and sew. Pick up 108 sts round neckline and knit edge. Double neckline towards WS and sew. Sew sleeves onto body from RS as follows: Sew alternating 1 st in last garter st round of sleeve before folding edge and 1 sts on body after machine seam. Turn WS out on sweater and sew folding edge from sleeves over cutting edge onto body by hand. Sew on clasps. |
