Hello! I worked the leg decreases following the 'decrease tip 1' - this says to work the decreases around the stitch marker. The stitch marker is placed at the beginning of the round. Is this also the position of the 'mid back'? Thank you!
08.01.2024 - 23:14DROPS Design answered:
Hi Emma, Yes, the beginning of the round and the marker are mid-back of leg. Happy knitting!

Not sure you got the question I just sent. Above is written: your comment is too long. Basically I need help with DECREASE TIP-1 of this pattern. Thanks.
11.11.2023 - 09:00DROPS Design answered:
Dear Veronica, it seems your previous question didn't go through since it was too long. You can see a general example on how to work the decrease indicated here in this video: https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=736&lang=en. So, you slip without working the 2 stitches before and the stitch with the marker. Then, you knit together the next 2 stitches. Finally, you pass over the 3 slipped stitches over the 2 stitches knit together. This way, you should have decreased 4 stitches. Happy knitting!

What does it mean when it says "Decrease like this on every round 4 times in total and then on every other round 6-6-7 times in total = 57-61-65 stitches."?
28.04.2023 - 14:53DROPS Design answered:
Dear Alexandra it means that you need to decrease as stated above on every round for the next 3 rounds (the first one used as an explanation is included in this). After working these 4 rounds, you will decrease on alternate rounds; that is, work 1 round without decreases, the next one with decreases, another one without decreases, the next one with decreases, e.t.c, until you have worked 6 or 7 (depending on your size) more rounds with decreases. Happy knitting!

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- HEEL DECREASE: ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until 7-7-8 stitches remain, slip next stitch as if to knit, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch knitted, turn piece. ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until 7-7-8 stitches remain, slip next stitch as if to purl, purl 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch purled, turn piece. ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until 6-6-7 stitches remain, slip next stitch as if to knit, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch knitted, turn piece. ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until 6-6-7 stitches remain, slip next stitch as if to purl, purl 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch purled, turn piece. Continue decrease like this with 1 stitch less before each decrease until there are 14-16-16 stitches on needle. DECREASE TIP-1: Begin 2 stitches before stitch with marker, slip the next 3 stitches (1 knit, 1 purl, 1 knit) as if to knit together, knit 2 together, pass the 3 slipped stitches over stitch worked together (4 stitches decreased). DECREASE TIP-2 (applies to decrease for toes): Begin 3 stitches before marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). Repeat at the other marker. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- SOCKS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked in the round on double pointed needles from leg down to toe. LEG: Cast on somewhat loosely 74-82-90 stitches on double pointed needles size 3 mm with DROPS Nord. Work rib (= knit 1/purl 1). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 18-17-16 cm, insert 1 marker in first knit stitch on round. On next round decrease 4 stitches mid back – read DECREASE TIP-1. Decrease like this every 3 cm 2-3-4 times in total = 66-70-74 stitches. Continue with rib until piece measures 23-25-27 cm from cast-on edge. Work next round as follows: Work 17-17-19 stitches in stocking stitch and decrease at the same time 4 stitches evenly over these stitches, work rib (purl 1/knit 1) over the next 33-35-37 stitches (rib should continue nicely over stitches and begin/end with 1 purl), work 16-18-18 stitches in stocking stitch and decrease at the same time 3 stitches evenly over these stitches = 59-63-67 stitches. Continue in the round with 26-28-30 stitches in stocking stitch at the back and 33-35-37 stitches rib at the front of sock until piece measures 24-26-28 cm. Then work heel and foot as explained below. HEEL AND FOOT: Slip the 33-35-37 rib stitches on a thread (mid on top of foot) and keep the 26-28-30 stocking stitches on needle for heel. Work in stocking stitch back and forth over heel stitches for 6-6-6½ cm. Insert 1 marker in the middle of last row - measure piece from this marker piece later. Work in HEEL DECREASE - read explanation above. After heel decrease work next round as follows: Work in stocking stitch over the 14-16-16 heel stitches, pick up 15-15-17 stitches along side of heel, work rib as before over the 33-35-37 stitches from thread on top of foot, and pick up 15-15-17 stitches along the other side of heel = 77-81-87 stitches. Work until mid under heel – round now begins here. Insert 1 marker on each side of the 33-35-37 rib stitches on top of foot. Continue rib over these stitches, and work in stocking stitch over stitches under foot. AT THE SAME TIME decrease in each side as follows: Knit the last 2 stitches before first marker on top of foot together and knit the first 2 stitches after last marker on top of foot twisted together. Decrease like this on every round 4 times in total and then on every other round 6-6-7 times in total = 57-61-65 stitches. Work until piece measures 17-18-19 cm from marker on heel – measured under foot. On next round work in stocking stitch and decrease 5 stitches evenly over the 33-35-37 rib stitches mid on top of foot = 52-56-60 stitches. Continue in the round in stocking stitch. Work until piece measures 18-19-20 cm from marker on heel – measured under foot. 4-5-6 cm remain until finished measurements, try the sock on for desired length before decreasing for toes as explained below. TOE: Insert 1 marker in each side of sock so that there are 26-28-30 stitches both on top of foot and under foot. Work in stocking stitch. AT THE SAME TIME on first round decrease for toes on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP-2 (= 4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this on every other round 4-7-9 times in total, and then on every round 6-3-2 times in total = 12-16-16 stitches. On next round knit all stitches together 2 by 2 = 6-8-8 stitches. Cut the yarn and pull yarn through stitches, tighten together and fasten. The sock measures approx. 22-24-26 cm from marker on heel – measured under foot. Work the other sock the same way. |
