Hello, please help! Just started so is the crochet tip just for the first row or every row? How do I go from the 4 chain stitches to 6 single crochets in round 1? Increase? What does work around the ring mean? It is not 6 single crochets in the ring like usual? Thank you!

Dear Sonia, yes, unless otherwise stated in the pattern, the crochet tip is applied to every round/row. In round 1 you work a ring of chain stitches; you can see a video here: https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=70&lang=en. Now work the single crochets in the ring as normal; the right term is "around" since you work the stitches by surrounding the edge of the ring. So it doesn't matter how many chain stitches you initially had; what matters is the single crochets worked around the ring. The ring is smaller so as to avoid having a big hole. Happy crochetting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CROCHET TIP: When crocheting in the round, replace the first double crochet on the round with 1 chain stitch. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. When crocheting back and forth, replace the first double crochet on the row with 1 chain stitch. The row finishes with 1 slip stitch in the chain stitch at the beginning of the previous row. DECREASE TIP: Work 1 double crochet, but wait with the last pull-through (= 2 loops on hook), work the next double crochet and when working the last pull-through pull the strand through all 3 loops on the hook –1 double crochet decreased. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round from the toe as far as the top of the foot, then back and forth to mid-back of heel. The slipper is crocheted together mid-back. FRONT OF SLIPPER: Work 4 chain stitches with hook size 3 mm and DROPS Lima. Form these chain stitches into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. Work as described below – read CROCHET TIP and remember the CROCHET TENSION! ROUND 1: Work 6 double crochets around the ring. ROUND 2: Work 2 double crochets in each double crochet = 12 double crochets. ROUND 3: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet. ROUND 4: * 1 double crochet in the first/next double crochet, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, work from *-* a total of 6 times = 18 double crochets. ROUND 5: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet. ROUND 6: * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 2 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, work from *-* a total of 6 times = 24 double crochets. ROUND 7: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet. ROUND 8: * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 3 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, work from *-* a total of 6 times = 30 double crochets. ROUND 9: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet. ROUND 10: * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 4 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, work from *-* a total of 6 times = 36 double crochets. ROUND 11: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet. ROUND 12: * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 5 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, work from *-* a total of 6 times = 42 double crochets. ROUNDS 13-14: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet. ROUND 15: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet and increase at the same time 2-6-6 double crochets evenly on the round (increase 1 stitch by working 2 double crochets in the same stitch) = 44-48-48 double crochets. The increases are finished in sizes 35/37 and 38/40. Continue as described below. Size 41/43: ROUNDS 16-17: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet. ROUND 18: Work 1 double crochet in each double crochet and increase at the same time 0-0-4 double crochets evenly on the round = 52 double crochets. The increases are finished in all sizes. ALL SIZES: = 44-48-52 double crochets. Continue working 1 double crochet in each double crochet until the piece measures 13-13-14 cm from the cast-on edge. Try the slipper on and work to desired length. Cut and fasten the strand. Now divide the piece and finish the slipper back and forth as described below. BACK OF SLIPPER: 44-48-52 double crochets on the round. Beginning of round = mid-under foot. Work double crochets back and forth over the last 16-17-18 double crochets and the first 16-17-18 double crochets on the round – a total of 32-34-36 double crochets; i.e. you are not working the middle 12-14-16 double crochets on top of the foot – remember the CROCHET TIP! When the slipper measures 20-22-25 cm from the cast-on edge, insert 1 marker in the middle of the 32-34-36 stitches. There is approx. 2 cm left to finished length, try the slipper on and work to desired length. On the next row decrease 1 double crochet on each side of the marker, i.e. start 2 stitches before the marker and work the next 4 double crochets together 2 and 2 – read DECREASE TIP (= 2 double crochets decreased). Work 1 row without decreasing. Repeat the decrease on the next row (= 2 double crochets decreased) = 28-30-32 double crochets. Work 1 row without decreasing. Lay the slipper double with the right side to the inside and crochet together the seam mid-back by working a row of slip stitches through both layers. The slipper measures approx. 22-24-27 cm from toe to heel. Cut and fasten the strand. Work an edge around the opening as described below. EDGE: Start from the right side, mid-back and work 1 double crochet with hook size 3 mm and DROPS Lima. Continue as follows: * 1 chain stitch, skip ½ cm, 1 double crochet in the next stitch *, work from *-* to the end of the round and finish with 1 chain stitch and 1 slip stitch in the double crochet at the beginning of the round. Cut and fasten the strand. Work the other slipper in the same way. |
