As you can see from my original question, I understand tension and the role it plays in getting the correct measurements - that is why i do it every time and, as I said, have NEVER had any problem!! Please see the last sentence of my question - that's what I would like answered. Thank you

In all my years of knitting I always check tension & it has always been perfect! With this pattern the tension test produced a 8x8 cm square on 4.5 mm needles. 5.5 mm needles seem to be right tension. Has anyone else found similar? Just worried I might be missing something, or if pattern has error, because have NEVER had this problem before. Thanks & regards

Dear Mrs McDade, to get the correct finished measurements, you need to get correct tension, so you might try again with larger needle to get the 18 sts = 10 cm - read more about tension here. Happy knitting!

Bonjour, Peut-on télécharger vos patrons sur « Knit companion »? Si oui, comment faire? Merci

Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- INCREASE TIP: Work to the marker, make 1 yarn over (= 1 stitch increased), marker here. On the next round knit the yarn over twisted to avoid a hole. Repeat at each marker. DECREASE TIP: Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased). Repeat at each marker. SHAPING TIP: Wet the beret and carefully press out any excess water. Lay the beret flat over a plate with approx. the same diameter, then place the plate on a glass so the beret is not touching the surface. Leave to dry then remove the plate carefully. Repeat after each wash. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- BERET – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up. Change to double pointed needles when necessary. BERET: Cast on 92-96-100 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Air. Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 2 cm. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 round where the number of stitches is adjusted to 91-98-105 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch. On the first round insert 7 markers as follows: Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round, work 13-14-15 stitches, * insert 1 marker, work 13-14-15 stitches *, repeat from *-* to the end of the round. Allow the markers to follow your work onwards; they are used when increasing and decreasing. On the next round increase 1 stitch before each marker – read INCREASE TIP (= 7 stitches increased). Increase like this every 4th round a total of 4 times = 119-126-133 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue working until the piece measures 12-13-14 cm. On the next round decrease 1 stitch before each marker – read DECREASE TIP (= 7 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 15-16-17 times = 14 stitches left. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 7 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The beret measures approx. 25-27-28 cm – read SHAPING TIP. |
