Really lovely. I haven't knitted or crocheted bags because I don't like the lining process, but as this is felted, it doesn't need any lining.

STRIPES: * 2 rounds light beige, 2 rounds rosy brown/heather, 2 rounds beige, 2 rounds rosy brown/heather *. Repeat from *-*. DECREASING TIP: Dec 4 sts from the RS as follows: K2 tog, stocking st until 2 sts before marker, K2 tog, marker, K2 tog, stocking st until 2 sts remain, K2 tog. -------------------------------------------------------- BAG: Worked in the round on circular needle. Cast on 80 sts on circular needle size 9 mm with light beige. Insert a marker at beg of round and a marker after 40 sts (marks the sides). Work stocking st and STRIPES – see above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 46 cm work next round as follows: 16 stocking sts, slip the next 48 sts on a stitch holder = 32 sts left on needle (16 sts on each side of marker). Continue in stocking st and stripes back and forth on needle on these 32 sts. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 47 cm dec 1 st each side and 1 st on each side of marker (= 4 dec sts per row) – SEE DECREASING TIP – and repeat the dec on every 6 cm a total of 6 times = 8 sts left on needle (4 sts on each side of marker). When piece measures 80 cm cast off. Slip the next 40 sts from stitch holder back on needle (= 8 sts left on stitch holder – for flap). Cast off the first 8 sts = 32 sts left on needle. Work stocking st and stripes back and forth on needle and dec as described above = 8 sts left on needle. When piece measures 80 cm slip the last 4 sts on a stitch holder = 4 sts left on needle. Continue on these for strap. STRAP: Change to beige. Work stocking st back and forth on needle, AT THE SAME TIME cast on 4 new sts at the end of first row = 8 sts on needle. Cast off when strap measures approx 120 cm. Slip the 4 sts from stich holder back on needle and work one more strap in the same way. FLAP: Slip the 8 sts from stitch holder back on needle (= mid back). Change to beige and work stocking st back and forth on needle, AT THE SAME TIME dec 1 st each side on first row = 6 sts left on needle. When flap measures 33 cm cast off 3rd and 4th st for buttonhole and cast on 2 new sts on return row. Cast off when flap measures 38 cm. ASSEMBLY: Sew the bottom of bag tog in outer loops of sts. Fold each strap double and sew tog to a tube. Now sew each end of strap on each side of marker the other side of bag. Sew button to the front of bag after felting. FELTING: Wash at 40 degrees with a detergent free of enzymes and optical bleach, with normal spin, but no pre-wash. After wash shape the bag while still wet, and leave to dry. At subsequent washes wash the bag at a wool programme. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
