RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked in the round with double pointed needles):
1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round.

PATTERN (broken moss stitch, worked in the round):
ROUND 1 (medium blue): Knit from the right side
ROUND 2 (off white): * Purl 1, knit 1 *, repeat from *-*
ROUND 3 (medium blue): Knit from the right side
ROUND 4 (off white): * Knit 1, purl 1 *, repeat from *-*
Repeat these 4 rounds.

PATTERN (broken moss stitch, worked back and forth):
ROW 1 (medium blue from right side): Knit.
ROW 2 (off white from right side): * Purl 1, knit 1 *, repeat from *-*.
ROW 3 (medium blue form wrong side): Purl. the wrong side.
ROW 4 (off white from wrong side): * Knit 1, purl 1 *, repeat from *-*.
Repeat these 4 rows.

Work 1 round/row with medium blue and 1 round/row with off white.

The ankle of the slipper is worked in the round, then you work the upper piece (= on top of the foot) back and forth and then, to finish, the rest of the slipper is worked in the round.

Cast on 43-47-51 stitches with double pointed needles size 4 mm and medium blue. Work 3 RIDGES – see description above. Continue by working STRIPES and pattern as follows – from mid back: 10-11-12 stitches garter stitch in stripes, PATTERN (broken moss stitch, worked in the round) over the next 23-25-27 stitches, garter stitch in stripes over the last 10-11-12 stitches – see description above. Continue until the piece measures approx. 10 cm, finish after the 2nd or 4th round in the pattern.

Now keep the middle 13-15-17 stitches on the needle and 15-16-17 stitches in each side are placed on a thread (= the rest of the stitches). Cut the strands and work PATTERN (broken moss stitch) over the 13-15-17 stitches and cast on 1 edge stitch in each side = 15-17-19 stitches (= upper piece). When the upper piece measures 7-8½-10 cm (finish after a row with medium blue) cast off the 1 edge stitch in each side = 13-15-17 stitches. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! The rest of the slipper is worked in the round in garter stitch, with medium blue and a short circular needle. Knit up 13-16-19 stitches inside the 1 edge stitch along the side of the upper piece, place the stitches from the threads back on the needle and work over these stitches, then knit up 13-16-19 stitches inside 1 edge stitch along the other side of the upper piece = 69-79-89 stitches on the needle. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! Insert 1 marker thread mid front of the toe and 1 marker thread mid back of the heel. Continue working in the round in garter stitch. When the piece measures 2 cm knit 2 stitches together on each side of each marker thread every 2nd round (= 4 stitches decreased every round you decrease). Continue to decrease every 2nd round until the piece measures 5-5-6 cm. Cast off, fold the piece double and sew together the cast-off edge (= mid under the foot). Sew in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so that the seam is not thick. Work another slipper in the same way.
