RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked in the round):
1 ridge = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round.

RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth):
1 ridge = Knit 2 rows.

PATTERN:
See diagram A.1. The diagram shows all the rows in the pattern seen from the right side.
----------------------------------------------------------

SLIPPERS:
ANKLE:
Cast on 38-38-40 stitches with double pointed needles size 6 mm and Andes. Work GARTER STITCH in the round – see description above, until the piece measures approx. 4 cm, finish after 1 round purl. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!

FOOT:
Now keep the first 11-11-11 stitches from the round on the needle, the other 27-27-29 stitches are placed on a thread. Work 2-2-4 rows stocking stitch back and forth over the 11-11-11 stitches, AT THE SAME TIME on the first row cast on 1 new stitch in each side (edge stitches) = 13-13-13 stitches.
Then work pattern as follows: 1 edge stitch in GARTER STITCH – see description above, A.1 (= 11 stitches), finish with 1 edge stitch in garter stitch. When A.1 is finished continue with stocking stitch. When the top piece measures 7-8½-10 cm cast off 1 edge stitch in each side = 11-11-11 stitches. Continue by placing the stitches from the thread back on the needle and knitting up 11-14-16 stitches on each side of the top piece (inside the 1 edge stitch) = 60-66-72 stitches on the needle. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE.
Insert 1 marker thread mid front on the toe and 1 marker thread mid back on the heel. Continue in the round with garter stitch. When the piece measures 2 cm knit 2 stitches together on each side of each marker thread every 2nd round (= 4 stitches less per round) continue the decreases until the piece measures 5-5-6 cm – cast off. Sew the seam under the foot in the outermost stitch so that there is not a thick seam. Work another slipper in the same way.

Diagram

= knit from right side, purl from wrong side
= purl from right side, knit from wrong side
= knit 2 together
= slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch
= slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 2 together, pass the slipped stitch over the stitches which were knitted together.
= between 2 stitches make 2 yarn overs. On the next row let the first yarn over drop down and knit the next (= 1 stitch)
