Tips & Help

Thank you for choosing DROPS Design!

We do our best to make our patterns easy to follow.

For that purpose, each of our patterns has specific tutorial videos to help you, which you will find at the bottom of the page.

We have also step-by-step lessons to help you understand some of the techniques we use in our patterns. You'll find them here!

NOTE: This pattern is written in British English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in British and American English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in American English, please click here.
See diagrams A.1 to A.6 – choose diagram for correct size. The diagram shows all rows in pattern seen from RS.

Row 1 (= RS): Work until 5-5-7 sts remain, K 2 twisted tog, turn piece.
Row 2 (= WS): Work until 5-5-7 sts remain, P 2 tog, turn piece.
Row 3: Work until 4-4-6 sts remain, K 2 twisted tog, turn piece.
Row 4: Work until 4-4-6 sts remain, P 2 tog, turn piece.
Continue dec like this with 1 st less before working 2 tog until 6 sts remain on needle.

Worked in the round on double pointed needles.
Cast on 36-36-42 sts on double pointed needles size 8 mm with Eskimo. Insert 1 marker at the beg of the round. K 1 round. On next round work rib as follows: A.1 (= 4 sts), A.2 (= 6-6-7 sts), P 2-2-3, A.3 (= 6-6-7 sts), A.1 (= 4 sts), A.2 (= 6-6-7 sts), P 2-2-3, finish with A.3 (= 6-6-7 sts). Repeat this 1st round in A.1-A.3. When piece measures 7 cm, continue on diagram vertically. Repeat diagram vertically. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION When piece measures 29-30-31 cm, keep the first 12-12-14 sts on needle for heel, slip the next 16-16-18 sts on a stitch holder (= mid upper foot) and keep the last 8-8-10 sts on needle for heel = 20-20-24 sts for heel. Work in stocking st back and forth over heel sts, AT THE SAME TIME on 1st row dec 2 sts over each cable = 14-14-18 sts. Work until heel measures 5-6-7 cm, insert 1 marker, then work HEEL DECREASE – see explanation above. After heel dec, pick up 6-7-7 sts along each side of heel and slip the 16-16-18 sts from stitch holder back on needle = 34-36-38 sts. Continue in stocking st over sts under foot and continue the 16-16-18 sts on top of foot as before, AT THE SAME TIME dec in each side as follows: K the last 2 sts before and the first 2 sts after the 16-16-18 sts on mid upper foot tog. Repeat dec every other round 3 times in total = 28-30-32 sts. When piece measures 18-20-22 cm from marker on heel (= approx. 4-4-5 cm remain), insert 1 marker in in each side (there should be 14-15-16 sts both on top of foot and under foot). Work in stocking st and dec for toes on each side of both markers as follows - beg 3 sts before marker: K 2 tog, K 2 (marker is between these), K 2 twisted tog. Repeat dec every other round 3-3-4 times in total = 16-18-16 sts remain on needle. K sts tog 2 by 2 = 8-9-8 sts. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten.

Cast on and work as right sock but work A.4 instead of A.1, A.5 instead of A.2 and A.6 instead of A.3.

= K
= P
= slip 2 sts on cable needle behind piece, K 2, K 2 from cable needle
= slip 2 sts on cable needle in front of piece, K 2, K 2 from cable needle
