Tips & Help

Thank you for choosing DROPS Design!

We do our best to make our patterns easy to follow.

For that purpose, each of our patterns has specific tutorial videos to help you, which you will find at the bottom of the page.

We have also step-by-step lessons to help you understand some of the techniques we use in our patterns. You'll find them here!

NOTE: This pattern is written in British English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. There are different terms for crocheting in British and American English. If this pattern includes crochet, click for "crochet terms" here. For this pattern in American English, please click here.
ROW 1: * K1, P1 *, repeat from *-*.
ROW 2: K over P and P over K.
Repeat row 2.

HEEL DECREASES: Work stocking st on the 12-14-18 heel sts, at the same time slip 1 st at the end of every row on a stitch holder until there are 4-5-6 sts on stitch holders each side = 4-4-6 sts left on row. Insert a marker in piece. Continue in stocking st and now work 1 st from stitch holder back on needle at the end of every row. NOTE! To avoid a hole, pick up 1 st between st on needle and st on stitch holder. On return row K tog this st and new st from stitch holder. Continue like this until there are 12-14-18 sts on needle again. Work 1 row on all sts.

DECREASING TIP: When 3 sts remain before marker dec as follows: K2 tog, K2 (marker sits between these 2 sts), slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso.

Worked back and forth on needle until after the split, and in the round on double pointed needles after the split.
Cast on 27-29-33 sts on needle size 8 mm with Eskimo. P 1 row from WS and continue in moss st – SEE ABOVE – until piece measures 6 cm. Now cast off 5 sts at the beg of next row from RS (for mock buttonhole edge) = 22-24-28 sts. Change to double pointed needles size 8 mm and continue in stocking st in the round. When piece measures approx 8 cm slip the first 10 sts on a stitch holder (= mid upper foot) and keep the last 12-14-18 sts on needles for heel. Now work HEEL DECREASES – see above back and forth on needle.
After heel decreases slip sts from stitch holder back on needle = 22-24-28 sts. Continue in stocking st in the round on all sts. When piece measures approx 17-19-21 cm from marker on heel (approx 5-5-6 cm remain) insert 1 marker each side with 10-12-14 sts on upper foot and 12-12-14 sts under foot. Continue in stocking st on all sts, AT THE SAME TIME dec for toe on each side of both markers – SEE DECREASING TIP. Repeat the dec on every other round a total of 4-4-5 times = 6-8-8 sts. On next round K2 tog all the way round, cut the thread, pull through remaining sts and fasten.

LEFT SOCK: Like right sock, but mirrored, i.e. cast off for buttonhole edge at the beg of next row from WS instead of RS. When working the heel, keep the first 12-14-18 sts on needle for heel and slip the last 10 sts on a stitch holder (= mid upper foot).

CROCHET BORDER: Crochet with 2 threads Puddel and crochet hook size 6 mm from the RS. Beg at bottom of split, work along split, round the top of sock and continue down the other side of split as follows: * 2 ch, skip approx 1 cm, 1 dc in next st *, repeat from *-*. Cut the thread and fasten.
Sew 2 buttons on the side of sock, sew through both mock buttonhole edge and the sock.
