Tips & Help

Thank you for choosing DROPS Design!

We do our best to make our patterns easy to follow.

For that purpose, each of our patterns has specific tutorial videos to help you, which you will find at the bottom of the page.

We have also step-by-step lessons to help you understand some of the techniques we use in our patterns. You'll find them here!

Pattern: See diagram. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS and the entire pattern is worked in stocking st. English translations for the wording in diagrams are given at the bottom of this pattern and they are given in the vertical order in which they appear in the diagram.
Rib: * K1, P1 *, repeat from *-*.

Body: The jacket is worked in the round after the rib on circular needle and cut mid front afterwards. Cast on 190-200 sts on circular needle size 2.5 mm with off-white and work 5 cm rib back and forth on needle. Change to yellow and circular needle size 4 mm and K 1 round, at the same time inc 44-52 sts evenly on round + 5 sts mid front (these 5 sts are for cutting afterwards and are not included in the pattern) = 234-252 sts + 5 sts mid front. Continue in the round. Work M.1 (beg pattern after the 5 sts mid front), then M.2 (beg by arrow) until piece measures 31-32 cm. Remember the knitting tension! Now cast off 7-9 sts each side for armhole. Put piece aside and knit the sleeves.
Sleeve: Cast on 46-50 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm with off-white and work 5 cm rib. Change to yellow and double pointed needles size 4 mm and K 1 round, at the same time inc 14-10 sts evenly on round = 60-60 sts. Continue in M.1 (place a pattern repeat mid upper sleeve), at the same time inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 32-32 times on every 3rd round = 124-124 sts. After M.1 work M.2 (beg by arrow) until piece measures 48-48 cm (finish on the same row as on body piece). Now cast off 6-9 sts mid under arm.
Yoke: Slip sleeves in on the same circular needle as body piece where cast off for armhole = 456-464 sts + 5 sts mid front (front piece = 110-117 sts +5 sts for cutting, sleeve = 118-115 sts, back piece = 110-117 sts, sleeve = 118-115 sts). Continue in M.2, at the same time work tog the first 3 sts and the last 3 sts on each piece on every round 1-2 times (= 16 dec sts per round), then work tog the first 2 and the last 2 sts on each piece on every round 9-10 times = 360-360 sts + 5 sts mid front. Now work M.3. When 6 rounds remain change to circular needle size 3 mm. After M.3 there are 120-120 sts + 5 sts mid front on round. Now cast off all sts.
Assembly: Insert a marking thread from top to bottom in the centre of the 5 sts mid front. Sew 2 seams on a sewing machine around the marking thread, 1st seam = ½ st from the MT, 2nd seam = ½ st from the 1st seam. Cut mid front. Pick up approx 110 sts along left front piece on needle size 2.5 mm with off-white and work 3 cm stocking st, P 1 row (= folding edge), 3 cm stocking st, cast off and fold edge double towards WS and fasten. Repeat along right front piece but after 1 cm make 6 buttonholes evenly distributed. 1 buttonhole = cast off 3 sts and cast on 3 new sts on return row – remember buttonholes on the piece in stocking sts to be folded towards WS! Pick up approx 106 sts round the neck on needle size 2.5 mm with off-white, change to yellow and work 2 cm stocking st, change to off-whit, 1 row stocking st, P 1 row, 2 cm stocking st, cast off. Fold edge double towards WS and fasten. Sew opening under arms. Sew on buttons to fit buttonholes.

English explanation to pattern diagram:

Bol = body piece
