Pattern instructions

Knitting Tension: 20sts x 26 rows stocking st on needles size 4 mm = 10x10cm.

Long version: Body: Cast on 16 (16-16) sts more and inc 16 (16-16) sts less after the hem. Work pattern as on short version but work 6 star repeats instead of 5. Inc measurements for sleeve, neck and casting off edge by 6 (6-6) cm. Length = 68 (69-70) cm. Increase sts on front band with approx 14 sts. Yarn requirements are increased by approx 50 g col no 44, light grey and approx 50 g col no 53, charcoal.

Hem: Work 3 cm stocking st, back and forth on needle, P1 row (= fold – all measurements are taken from here), change to light grey and work 3 cm stocking st.

Pattern: See diagram (1 diagram = 1 repeat). Pattern is seen from RS and worked in stocking st.

Body: Jacket is knitted on circ needle after the hem and armhole and centre front is then cut open. Cast on 190 (198-206) sts on long circ needle size 2.5mm with charcoal. Work hem back and forth on needle starting centre front. Change to circ needle size 4mm and continue in stocking st , knitting in the round and at the same time inc 5 sts centre front (these sts are for cutting open at the end and are not worked in pattern) and at the same time inc 34 (42-50) sts evenly on first round = 224 (240-256) sts. (+ 5 sts). When piece measures 3 (4-5) cm continue as follows: M.1, M.2, M.3 and then M.4 until you have worked 5 star repeats. Work 3 rounds in light grey. Remember to check your tension.

At the same time when piece measures 33 (34-34) cm, inc 5 sts each side for armhole (these sts are for cutting later and are not knitted in pattern). After the 3 rounds in light grey, cast off 20 (22-22) sts (+ 5 sts for cutting) centre front for neck. Continue as follows knitting back and forth on needle. Work M.5 and at the same time dec for neck on every other row as follows: 3 sts once, 2 sts twice, 1 st 4 times. At the same time when piece measures 60 (61-62) cm cast off centre 38 (40-40) sts for back neck. Dec 2 sts each side of neck on next row. When M.5 is completed, work 2 rows in light grey. Piece measures approx 62 (63-64) cm. Cast off.

Sleeves: Cast on 48 (48-48) sts on short circ needle size 2.5mm with charcoal and work hem. Change to short circ needles size 4 mm at the same time increase 6 (8-8) sts evenly on first row = 54 (56-56) sts. Work M.1, then finish in M.4 (make sure to place 1 repeat of each pattern on top of sleeve). At the same time after the hem, inc underneath sleeve as follows:
2 sts 31 (30-32) times, for S+M: alternatively every 3rd and 4th round , L: every 3rd round = 116 (116-120)sts. Continue until piece measures 48 (47-46) cm (or adjust to pattern repeat). Work 2 cm reverse stocking st. This is facing for the cutting edge on the body. Cast off.

Assembly: Mark the middle of the increased stitches each side and centre front with a thread. Sew two machine seams each side of the thread ½ stitch away from thread, then ½ stitch from first seam. Cut open for armhole and centre opening along the marking thread. Sew shoulder seams. Fold hems to WS at bottom of body and sleeve and sew. Pick up approx 114 sts along left front with light grey on circ needle 2.5mm and work 3 cm stocking st back and forth on needle, then P 1 row (=fold), change to charcoal and work 3 cm stocking st. Cast off. Repeat along right front , but after 1 cm work 5 buttonholes evenly spaced. 1 buttonhole = : cast off 2 sts, cast on 2 sts on next row over the cast off sts (Remember button hole on folded edge). Fold edges to WS over the cut edge and sew. Pick up approx 110 sts around neck on circ needle 2.5mm with light grey and work as front bands back and forth on needle starting and ending centre front. Cast off and fold to WS and sew. Insert sleeves into body RS facing as follows: sew alternatively 1 stitch in arm facing and I stitch in the body other side of machined seam. Turn jacket inside out and sew sleeve facing over the cut edge on the body by hand. Sew on buttons.
