Rib: *K1, P1*, repeat from *-*.

Pattern: the entire pattern is knitted in stockinette st.

Front and back piece:
Knitted in the round on circular needles after the Rib and cut for armholes and mid front afterwards.
Cast on 130-138 (144-152-160) sts on circular needle size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 with black and knit 5 cm / 2'' Rib back and forth on needle.
Change to circular needle size 4 mm / US 6 and continue in the round in stockinette st, at the same time inc 32-36 (42-46-50) sts evenly on first round = 162-174 (186-198-210) sts. Now inc 5 sts mid front (to be cut afterwards and not included in pattern, but knitted in black) and continue in pattern.
When piece measures 20-23 (25-27-27) cm inc 5 sts each side for armhole (to be cut for armholes afterwards and not included in pattern, but knitted in black).
When piece measures 37-40 (44-46-48) cm bind off 31-31 (33-35-35) sts mid front + 5 sts to be cut, for neck and complete each side separately. Dec to shape the neckline on every other row: 2 sts 1 time and 1 st 1 time.
Bind off remaining sts when piece measures 40-43 (47-49-51) cm.

Sleeve:
Knitted round on double pointed needles. Cast on 30-32 (34-36-36) sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 with black and knit 5 cm / 2'' Rib.
Change to needle size 4 mm / US 6 and continue in stockinette st, at the same time inc 10-10 (10-12-14) sts evenly on first round = 40-42 (44-48-50) sts.
Now continue in pattern – make sure to place a pattern repeat mid upper sleeve - at the same time, inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 20-19 (22-20-23) times as follows:
Size 3/4: on every other and every 3rd round alternately
Size 5/6: on every * 3rd, 3rd and 4th * round alternately
Size 7/8: on every 3rd round
Size 9/10: on every 4th round
Size 11/12 years: on every *3rd, 3rd and 4th * round alternately
= 80-80 (88-88-96) sts – incorporate the new sts in pattern as you go along.
When piece measures 26-30 (33-37-40) cm knit 2 cm / 3/4'' in reverse stockinette st = edge for sewing on sleeve to body piece. Bind off and knit the other sleeve.

Assembly: Insert a marking thread in the middle of the inc sts for armhole each side and mid front. Make 2 seams each side on your sewing machine, the first seam ½ st from the marking thread and the other one ½ st from the first one.
Cut the piece between these for armholes and mid front. Sew shoulder seams.

Right front edge: Pick up approx 82-88 (92-96-100) sts on needle size 3 mm / US 2or3 with black, knit 3 cm / 1 1/8'' stockinette st, P 1 row = folding edge, knit 3 cm / 1 1/8'' stockinette st, bind off.

Left front edge: as right front edge, but after 1 cm / 3/8'' make 5 buttonholes evenly distributed on row. 1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts on return row. After the folding edge knit 1.5 cm stockinette sts and make buttonholes.
Fold edges double towards WS and fasten.

Neckline:
Pick up approx 76-90 sts round the neck on needle size 2.5 mm / US 1.5 with black and knit 6 cm / 2 3/8'' Rib, bind off, fold neck double towards WS and fasten.
Set in sleeves from the RS as follows: sew in the last row before the edge in reverse stockinette sts on sleeves to the first row after the seam in the sts for cutting on body piece.
Turn the jumper inside out and sew the piece in stockinette sts over the cutting edge on body piece.

Sew on buttons.
