Hoi Annemie.

You have 36 sts + 2 edge sts. Work the repeat of 8 sts in M.1 4½ times over your 36 sts.

I don't understand the M 1 chart - each row has 8 stiches on the chart with 8 rows but you have 38 stiches on the needle?

PATTERN: See diagram M.1 and M.2 – diagrams are seen from RS. BAG: Worked in 2 pieces and sewn tog afterwards. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 54 sts on needle size 8 mm with Snow and work stocking st for 38 cm. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! On next row from RS make a pleat as follows: K 11 sts, then M.2 (= 32 sts, reduced to 16 sts), K 11 sts. There are now 38 sts left on needle. P 1 row and continue in M.1 with 1 edge st each side for 20 cm. K 3 rows and cast off. Piece measures a total of approx 60 cm. BACK PIECE: Like front piece. ASSEMBLY: Sew front and back pieces tog at the sides and along bottom edge – sew in outer loops of sts STRAP: Worked in garter st, i.e. K all rows. Pick up 8 sts at the top on one side of bag (i.e. 4 sts on each side of seam) on needle size 8 mm with Snow. Work 2 rows, on next row K2 tog each side = 6 sts. Continue until strap measures 80 cm. On next row work 2 sts in the outermost st each side = 8 sts. Work 2 rows, and cast off. Sew strap to the other side of bag, with 4 sts on each side of seam. FELTING: Wash the bag in the washing machine with a detergent free of enzymes and optical bleach. Wash at 40 degrees with normal spin, but without pre-wash. Shape the bag when it is still wet and leave to dry flat. AFTER FELTING: If the piece is not felted enough and is too big: Wash the piece one more time in the washing machine while it is still wet add a terry towel that measures approx. 50 x 70 cm - NOTE: Do not use a short program. If the piece has been felted too much and is too small: While the piece is still wet stretch it to the correct measurements, if the piece is dry, make sure to soak it first. Remember: All subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment. |
