------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- DECREASE TIP-1 (for hat): Work until there are 3 stitches left before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). Decrease like this at each marker: 6 stitches decreased on the round. INCREASE TIP-1 (for right mitten): Work up to and including the marker-stitch, use the left needle to pick up the yarn between 2 stitches from round below, pick up the yarn from the front and knit in the stitch loop that is on the back of the needle, work to end of round (1 increased stitch). Continue increasing, always after the marker-stitch. INCREASE TIP-2 (for left mitten): Work up to the marker-stitch (do not work it), use the left needle to pick up the yarn between 2 stitches from round below, pick up the yarn from the back and knit in the stitch loop that is on the front of the needle, work the marker-stitch and then to the end of the round (1 increased stitch). Continue increasing, always before the marker-stitch. DECREASE TIP-2 (for the mittens): Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker: Start 2 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, marker, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). Repeat at the second marker. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The hat is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up, changing to double pointed needles as stitches are decreased. HAT: Cast on 102-108-116 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm, 1 strand DROPS Fiesta and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Purl 1 round. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) until the piece measures 10-11-11 cm from the cast-on edge. Change to circular needle size 4 mm. Continue with stocking stitch, decreasing 18-18-20 stitches evenly on the first round = 84-90-96 stitches. Work until the piece measures 22-23-24 cm (10-10-11 cm left to finished length). Insert 3 markers, each one between stitches and with 28-30-32 stitches between each marker. Begin decreasing for the top of the hat - read DECREASE TIP-1. Decrease like this every 2nd round 11-12-13 times = 18-18-18 stitches. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 9-9-9 stitches. Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 32-33-35 cm from the cast-on edge. ASSEMBLY: Fold 7 cm of the rib to the right side. The hat measures approx. 25-26-28 cm with the fold-up. ------------------------------------------------------- MITTENS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles. RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on 40-44-44 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm, 1 strand DROPS Fiesta and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Knit 1 round. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) until the piece measures 6 cm from the cast-on edge. Knit 1 round and decrease 8-10-8 stitches evenly spaced = 32-34-36 stitches. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round. Change to double pointed needles size 4 mm. Continue with stocking stitch. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. When the piece measures 7-7-8 cm, start to increase for the thumb-gusset. Insert 1 marker in the 9th-11th-11th stitch on the round. Increase AFTER this stitch - read INCREASE TIP-1. Increase like this every 2nd round a total of 8-10-10 times = 40-44-46 stitches. Knit 1 round. On the next round, place the first 9-11-11 stitches on a stitch holder, cast on 1 new stitch above the thumb-stitches, knit to end of round = 32-34-36 stitches. Continue working until the piece measures 21-22-23 cm (there is approx. ca 5 cm left. Try the mitten on and work to desired length). Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round and 1 marker after 16-17-18 stitches. Decrease 1 stitch on each side of both markers (4 decreased stitches) - read DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 3 times, then every round 3 times = 8-10-12 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 4-5-6 stitches. Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. THUMB: Place the 9-11-11 thumb-stitches from the stitch holder onto double pointed needles size 4 mm. In addition, knit up 4 stitches behind the thumb = 13-15-15 stitches. Work stocking stitch in the round for 5½-6-6 ½ cm. There is 1 cm left. Try the mitten on and work to desired length. Work 2 rounds where all stitches are knitted together 2 and 2 = 4 stitches. Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. LEFT MITTEN: Cast on and work in the same way as the right mitten to where you begin increasing for the thumb-gusset. Insert 1 marker in the 24th-24th-26th stitch on the round and increase BEFORE this stitch When placing the thumb-stitches on a stitch holder, work until there are 9-11-11 stitches left on the round, place these 9-11-11 stitches on a stitch holder, cast on 1 stitch above the thumb-stitches = 32-34-36 stitches. Finish in the same way as the right mitten. |
