I would like to knit this pattern with yarn 100g - 140 m (knitting tension 16rows x 12sts). Is there a way to calculate how many stitches I should cast on? Should I use two strands of this yarn? What size of needles should I use? Or it is not possible to knit this with yarn other than your suggested?

Dear Egle, you can use this yarn if you get a gauge similar to the pattern; otherwise you need to calculate the amount of stitches necessary. You can read the following lesson for more information: https://www.garnstudio.com/lesson.php?id=25&cid=19. Happy knitting!

The symbols at the patterns are not always easy to understand. Is there a list of symbols and explanations? If yes where is it? If not I would appreciate it a lot if you could make one. Best regards Rie Cohen

Knitted hat and neck warmer in moss stitch in DROPS Polaris.

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: Hat: See diagrams A.1 and A.2. Neck warmer: See diagram A.1. Diagrams show all rows in pattern seen from the right side. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE GARMENT: Work piece back and forth on circular needle and sew together when finished. HAT: Cast on 40-42 stitches on circular needle size 12 mm with Polaris. Knit 1 row from wrong side. Then work rib (= knit 1/purl 1) back and forth for 9 cm - adjust so that next row is worked from right side. Now work A.1 back and forth. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 26-28 cm in total - adjust to finish after a whole repetition of A.1 vertically, then work pattern as follows: Work A.2 4 times in total in width, A.1 0-1 time. When A.2 has been worked vertically, there are 16-18 stitches on needle. Knit stitches together 2 by 2 = 8-9 stitches. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Sew hat together in front loop of outermost stitch to avoid a chunky seam. Hat measures approx. 32-34 cm. Fold an edge at the bottom of approx. 7 cm. POM-POM: Make a large, loose pom-pom of approx. 12 cm in diameter with Polais and sew it to top of hat. ---------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER - SHORT SUMMARY OF PIECE: Work piece back and forth on circular needle. NECK WARMER: Cast on 22-24 stitches on circular needle size 15 mm with Polaris. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Then work pattern A.1 back and forth. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 13-15 cm, adjust to finish after a row from wrong side, then put piece aside. Cut the yarn. Work another part the same way but do not cut the yarn. Slip both parts on to same circular needle so that both parts have right side outwards on the same side. NOW MEASURE PIECE FROM HERE! Begin to work pattern as before over the part you did not cut the yarn on, then work pattern over the other part (=44-48 stitches). Turn and work pattern back and forth like this until piece measures approx. 12-14 cm – adjust to finish after a row from right side. Cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. The neck warmer measures approx. 26-30 cm vertically. Sew neck warmer together in front loop of outermost stitch from cast-off edge and 13-15 cm down (= approx. 13-15 cm vent at the bottom of neck). Cut and fasten the yarn. |
