------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagrams M.1, M.2, M.3 and M.4. RIB: * knit 1 / purl 1 *. Repeat from *-*. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- Body: Numbers in ( ) = men's sizes. Cast on 242-264-286 (264-286-308) sts on smaller circular needles with gray blue and knit rib as follows: 2 rows gray blue, then dark brown until the rib measures 5-5-5 (6-6-6) cm , then 1 row stockinette st. Change to larger circular needles and knit Pattern 1 once (center the pattern across the front and back), then Pattern 2 until the work measures 36-40-44 (45-44-47) cm . Knit the next row as follows: bind off 4 sts for armhole, 113-124-135 (124-135-146) sts for the front, bind off 8 sts for armhole, 113-124-135 (124-135-146) sts for the back, bind off 4 sts for armhole. On the next row inc 5 sts on each side over the bound-off sts (these sts are for the steeks and are not knit into the pattern). Dec 1 st on each side of the 5 steek sts (4 decreases per row) every row 1-3-4 (1-3-4) times, then every other row 2-2-3 (2-2-4) times, then every 4th row 0-0-2 (0-2-3) times = 107-114-117 (118-121-124) sts each front and back. When the work measures 55-59-64 (65-65-69) cm , bind off the center front 19-22-21 (22-23-26) sts for the neck. Knit the rest of the work back and forth on the needles. Bind off at each neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 3 times. At the same time, when the work measures approx. 57-61-66 (67-67-71) cm (adjust to get a half or whole repeat of Pattern 2) knit Pattern 3 or Pattern 4 to finished dimensions (Pattern 3 fits after a whole Pattern 2 - Pattern 4 fits after a half Pattern 2). At the same time, when the work measures 59-63-68 (69-69-73) cm , bind off the center back 35-38-37 (38-39-42) sts for the neck and then bind off 2 sts at each back neck edge on the next row. Bind off after Pattern 3/Pattern 4. The work measures approx. 61-65-70 (71-71-75) cm . Sleeves: Cast on 58-60-60 (60-62-62) sts on smaller double pointed needles with gray blue; join and place a marker at the join. Knit rib as follows: 2 rows gray blue, then dark brown until the rib measures 5-5-5 (6-6-6) cm , then 1 row stockinette st. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 1 once and then Pattern 2 to finished dimensions - centering the pattern on the sleeve. After the rib, inc 1 st each side of marker 26-25-27 (27-28-31) times: Sizes S + M (S/M + M/L): alternately every 4th and 5th row Sizes L + (XL): every 4th row = 110-110-114 (114-118-124) sts. When the work measures 47-46-44 (50-51-52) cm , put 4 sts each side of marker on a stitch holder. Put sts on a stitch holder for sleeve caps on each side every other row: 4-3-3 (4-3-3) sts 8-10-13 (8-11-13) times. The work measures 53-53-53 (56-59-61) cm . Put all the sts from the stitch holder back on the needles and knit 2 cm reverse stockinette st with dark brown for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body, bind off. Assembly: Sew a marker thread down into the center of the steek sts on each side. Sew two machine seams around the marker thread, first seam = 1/2 st from the marker thread, 2nd seam = 1/2 st from first seam. Cut for armhole. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 94-106 sts around the neck on smaller double-pointed needles with dark brown and knit rib for 14-16-16 (16-18-18) cm , increasing on the first row to approx. 116-130 sts. Knit the 2 last rows of rib in gray blue, bind off. Sew the sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: Sew alternately a stitch in the last row of knitting on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a stitch on the body after the machine seam. Turn the sweater inside out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut edge on the body by hand. |
