The pattern says to cast on 108 to 120 stitches. What does this mean? How can I align the size to the number of stitches required? Thank you, Karen
15.10.2023 - 19:17DROPS Design answered:
Dear Karen, 108-120 means 108 for the first (smallest) size and 120 for the second (largest) size. You can see the measurements for each size in the materials section. Happy knitting!

Hi, I started knitting just a few months ago and I need help with pattern interpretation. Every row is a round, and I start from the bottom right. However the pattern has only 12 stitches and I casted 108. Stitches. What do I have to do with the remaining stitches ? Do I have to work rib? (Knit 1 purl 1)? Thank you
18.01.2023 - 10:00DROPS Design answered:
Dear Letizia, when you have to work A.1 you will repeat the 12 sts in A.1 in the round, ie repeat 9 times A.1 on the round (9x12=108 sts) - you can add a marker between each repeat to help you checking your number of stitches. Then work every row in A.1 reading it from the right towards the left. When A.1 is done there are 2 sts left in each A.1 x 9 repeats = 18 sts left. Happy knitting!

Ohjeessa on 3,5mm puikot tai käsialan mukaan. Pitääköhän ohjeessa oleva neuletiheys paikkansa, koska jouduin vaihtamaan puikot 6mm, jotta saisin saman tiheyden? Myös lankavyyhdissä mainitaan isompi puikkojen paksuus. 6mm puikoilla tulee työn jäljestä löysä.
12.01.2023 - 20:06DROPS Design answered:

Bon tricot!

Do you know exactly how much yarn is needed to knit the smaller size? I have one 50g ball of Air yarn and am looking for a nice hat pattern to use it up. I was thinking of trying this with a slightly shorter turn up.
22.10.2022 - 21:32DROPS Design answered:
Dear Ellie, we don't have information on how much the hat weights, but it requires more than 1 ball of yarn. So we don't know if 1 ball will be enough to work the hat, even with a shorter edge. You could try working it and you could adjust the length to the amount of yarn left. You could also try the following patterns, which only require 50g of Air: https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=10589&cid=19; https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=9995&cid=19. Happy knitting!

Hi, so for the needle to yarn gauge ratio I'm confused. Since your recommended needle size is 3.5mm but the drops air yarn only comes in gauge for 5mm needles. Is that what was still used here for this?
12.10.2022 - 01:29DROPS Design answered:
Hi Chloe, The size of needles used will give a tighter or looser fabric. For this pattern we have chosen a smaller needle size to give a tighter and warmer hat. It also means that you need more stitches and rows on your 10 x 10 cm swatch. Hope this helps and happy knitting!

Hi . I can never find a hat pattern to fit my husband's head. Could you please advise me how to increase stitches to achieve a larger size? Thanks
22.07.2022 - 22:25DROPS Design answered:
Dear Anna, generally, it will depend on the model you are working. For this model, the pattern has a 12-stitch repeat. You will need to add a multiple of 12 stitches for your desired size. When you want to make a bigger size, it's better to work a rib pattern model (like this one) so it will adjust better to the head. Happy knitting!

Hello. I started the hat by casting on 126 stitches, as that gave me the circumference I needed. I have now knit about 6 inches. But I re-read the pattern and only now realized I need a multiple of 12. I have 6 stitches too many. I don’t want to start over if I can fix it. Can you instruct me how to decrease back to 120 stitches without messing up the ribbing? Thank you.

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up. Change to double pointed needles when necessary. HAT: Cast on 108-120 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and Air. Purl 1 round. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue until the piece measures 27-29 cm; there is approx. 7 cm left to finished length. Now work A.1 (= 12 stitches) a total of 9-10 times on the round. When A.1 has been completed in height there are 18-20 stitches on the needles. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 9-10 stitches. Cut the strand and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 34-36 cm. Fold up approx. 10 cm on the right side. |
