What do you do with the 6 stitches that you put on a holder when you begin the sleeve cap? Are they included with the rest of the stitches when you begin to work the reverse stockinette band or are they left on their own little holders.?
21.05.2019 - 19:59DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Taylor-Roberts, yes, when you work 2 cm reversed stockinette on all stitches, you should also work over these 6 sts. Happy knitting!

I am having trouble with setting up the pattern. If i work pattern 4 (16 sts) over 193 stitches, I have a stitch left over. How do I work this extra stitch?
03.03.2019 - 19:12DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Taylor-Roberts, repeat 48 times the 16 sts in M.4 (= 192 sts), then work the first st in M.4 = 193 sts, and pattern is now symetrical on each side. Happy knitting!

DROPS Cardigan in Silke-Tweed or Flora
DROPS 56-18 |
|||||||
Gauge: 23 sts and 30 rows on larger needles in pattern = 10 x 10 cm Pattern: See charts. The pattern is shown from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette st. Border: Knit 2 cm stockinette st, purl 1 row (= folding edge – measure the work from here), knit 2 cm stockinette st. Buttons: If you wish to have buttons instead of a zipper: Instead of knitting zipper pockets/pouches as described under "Assembly", knit buttonband as follows: Pick up approx. 360-380 sts along both front pieces and around the neck on smaller circular needles with rust / pfirsich and knit 3 cm stockinette st, purl 1 row (= folding edge), knit 3 cm stockinette st back and forth on needles, but after 1 cm make 6 buttonholes evenly distributed along the right front from the beginning of the binding off for the neck and down - 1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and inc 2 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row (remember buttonholes on the folding edge). Body: Knit the cardigan in the round after the folding edge and cut steeks for armholes and at the center front. Cast on 247 (263-279) sts (including 1 edge st at each side) on smaller circular needles with rust / pfirsich and knit Border. Change to larger circular needles and inc 3 sts at the center front on the 1st row (these 3 sts + 2 edge sts = 5 sts - these sts are for the steek and are not knit into the pattern). Join the work. Begin Pattern 1 after the 5 steek sts at the center front. Knit 16 rows of Pattern 1. On the next row, establish pattern as follows: 5 steek sts, 24 sts Pattern 1, 197 (213, 229) sts Pattern 3, 24 sts of Pattern 1 reversed (mirror-image) and work 4 rows. Then establish pattern and knit to finished dimensions as follows: 5 steek sts, 24 sts Pattern 1, Pattern 2, 193 (209-225) sts Pattern 4, Pattern 2 mirror-image reversed, 24 sts of Pattern 1 mirror-image reversed. When the work measures 47 (49-50) cm, inc 5 sts on each side (these sts are for armhole steeks and are not knit into the pattern). Front = 122 (130-138) sts + 5 steek sts, back = 123 (131-139) sts. When the work measures 52 cm, bind off the center 5 steek sts in the front for the neck. Knit the rest of the work back and forth on needles. Then bind off at each neck edge every other row: 2 sts 1 time, dec 1 st 8 times, then dec 1 st every 4th row 5 times and then dec 1 st every 6th row 1 (2-2) times. When the work measures 70 (72-74) cm, bind off the center 29 (31-31) sts in the back for the neck and then bind off 2 sts on each back neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures 72 (74-76) cm. Sleeves: Cast on 56 (56-56) sts on smaller double pointed needles with rust / pfirsich and knit Border. Change to larger double pointed needles; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 16 rows Pattern 1, then Pattern 3 once. Then knit Pattern 4 to finished dimensions - center the pattern on the sleeve. At the same time, after Pattern 1, inc 1 st each side of marker 30 (30-32) times: Sizes S+M: alternately every 3rd and 4th row Size L: every 3rd row = 116 (116-120) sts. When the work measures 46 (45-45) cm, put 3 sts on each side of marker onto a stitch holder and knit the rest back and forth on needles. Then put 9 sts from each side onto a stitch holder for sleeve caps every other row 4 times. The work measures approx. 49 (48-48) cm. Then put all sts from the stitch holder back on the double pointed needles and knit 2 cm reverse stockinette st with rust for a seam allowance over the cut edge on the body, bind off all sts. Assembly: Sew a marker down into the center of the increased sts on each side and at the center front. Sew two machine seams around the marker, 1st seam = 1/2 st from the marker thread, 2nd seam = 1/2 st from first seam. Cut up for armholes and at the center front. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 360-380 sts up along both front pieces and around the neck on smaller circular needles size with rust / pfirsich and knit 5 rows stockinette st back and forth on the needles. Bind off along the placket at the center front (from the beginning of the binding off for the neck and down - approx. 52 cm on both front pieces. Knit the remaining sts (up around the neck) as follows: purl 1 row (= folding edge), knit 5 rows stockinette st, bind off. Pick up approx. 115-125 sts along the left placket from the wrong side and knit 5 rows stockinette st, bind off (= pocket into which to sew the zipper). Repeat along the right placket. Sew the sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: Sew the sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: Sew alternately a stitch in the last row of knitting on the sleeve before the sewing-allowance and a stitch on the body after the machine seam. Turn the sweater inside (wrong side) out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut edge on the body by hand. Sew on the zipper. |
