------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- RIDGE/GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge in height = Knit 2 rows. STRIPES: 18-19-20-20-21-22 cm with 1 strand wheat Air and 1 strand heather Brushed Alpaca Silk. 19-19-20-21-21-22 cm with 1 strand wheat Air and 1 strand cerise Brushed Alpaca Silk. 19-20-20-21-22-22 cm with 1 strand wheat Air and 1 strand coral Brushed Alpaca Silk. BUTTONHOLES: Work buttonholes on each side of the front piece from the right side as follows: Work 3 stitches, make 1 yarn over, knit the next 2 stitches together, work garter stitch until there are 5 stitches left on row, knit the next 2 stitches together, make 1 yarn over and work the last 3 stitches. On the next row knit the yarn overs to leave holes. Work buttonholes when the piece measures 8-8-8-8-8-8, 18-19-20-20-21-21 and 29-30-31-32-33-34 cm. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): All decreases are worked from the right side! Work 1 stitch in garter stitch, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased), work garter stitch until there are 3 stitches left on row, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased) and finish with 1 stitch in garter stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- JUMPER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked back and forth on the needle, bottom up. Bands are worked on each side of the back piece (i.e. the back piece has 5 garter stitches more on each side where the buttons will be attached = split). The sleeves are knitted-up around the armholes and worked back and forth, top down. The front and back pieces are worked in STRIPES – see description above. BACK PIECE: Cast on 70-74-78-82-88-94 stitches (including 5 band stitches on each side) with circular needle size 9 mm and 1 strand wheat Air and 1 strand heather Brushed Alpaca Silk (= 2 strands). Work GARTER STITCH and stripes – read description above, to finished length. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 31-32-33-34-35-36 cm cast off 6 stitches for the armholes at the beginning of the next 2 rows (5 band stitches + 1 stitch for armhole) = 58-62-66-70-76-82 stitches. When the piece measures 55-57-59-61-63-65 cm, cast off the middle 20-20-20-22-22-22 stitches for neck and each shoulder is finished separately (= 19-21-23-24-27-30 stitches). Work 1 ridge over the 19-21-23-24-27-30 stitches. Cast off (make sure the cast-off edge is not tight). The piece measures a total of 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm. Work the other shoulder in the same way. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 60-64-68-72-78-84 stitches with circular needle size 9 mm and 1 strand of each quality (= 2 strands). Work garter stitch and stripes. Work BUTTONHOLES on each side – read description above. When the piece measures 31-32-33-34-35-36 cm (adjust to match the back piece), cast off 1 stitch for the armholes at the beginning of the next 2 rows = 58-62-66-70-76-82 stitches. When the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm, cast off the middle 18-18-18-20-20-20 stitches for neck and each shoulder is finished separately (= 20-22-24-25-28-31 stitches). On the next row from the neck knit the first 2 stitches together = 19-21-23-24-27-30 stitches. Work a total of 2 ridges. Cast off (make sure the cast-off edge is not tight). The piece measures a total of 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm. Work the other shoulder in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the shoulder seams with grafting stitches using 1 strand wheat Air and 1 strand coral Brushed Alpaca Silk. SLEEVE: The sleeves are worked back and forth, top down. Knit up 50-52-54-56-58-60 stitches around the armhole in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch, with circular needle size 9 mm and 1 strand wheat Air and 1 strand coral Brushed Alpaca Silk (= 2 strands); i.e. begin right after where 1 stitch was cast off on the front piece and knit up 25-26-27-28-29-30 stitches as far as the shoulder seam, knit up 25-26-27-28-29-30 stitches from the shoulder seam down to the last row before the 6 stitches cast off on the back piece. Work garter stitch back and forth. When the piece measures 2 cm, decrease 1 stitch on each side of the piece – read DECREASE TIP! Decrease like this every 2nd row a total of 8 times = 34-36-38-40-42-44 stitches. Cast off when the sleeve measures 24-23-22-21-20-19 cm; make sure the cast-off edge is not tight - you can use a size larger needle to cast off if this is a problem. Work the other sleeve in the same way. ASSEMBLY: Sew the sleeve seams with 1 strand wheat Air and 1 strand coral Brushed Alpaca Silk in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch, sew together the edge stitches from front and back pieces under arm (ie: the outermost stitch in each end of front piece and the first stitch inside the 5 band stitches on back piece). Sew buttons onto the right side of the back piece (= the back, when wearing the garment); the 5 extra garter stitches on the back piece are then folded forwards and buttoned through the front piece. |
