I am working on the sleeve cap of the Drops 38-2 and have a question regarding the shaping. The instructions state "Dec to shape the sleeve cap on every other row 4 sts 7 times and cast off." If I decrease 4 sts at the beginning of each row I will end up decreasing 12 sts on one side of the sleeve and 16 sts on the other side. This doesn't seem correct. Can you please confirm? Thanks!

Dear Jennifer, for shaping the sleeve cap, you should cast off on both sides. So cast off 4 stitches on the beginning of every row, 7 times (that way you will cast off at every other row on both sides). Happy Stitching!

I am working on the sleeve cap of the Drops 38-2 (jacket with textured pattern) and the instructions are unclear to me. I am knitting back and forth on the needle. The instructions say to decrease every other row 4 stitches 7 times. Does this mean to decrease 2 stitches at both ends of the row or to decrease 4 stitches at the beginning of each row?

Dear Jenifer, cast off 4 stitches at the beginning of each row, 7 times. Happy Knitting!

Pattern: See diagram M.1 to M.3. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS side. Moss st: First row: K1, P1. Second row: P over K and K over P. Repeat second row. Bobble: Work from RS. Inc to 3 sts in 1 st, work 3 rows stocking st on these 3 sts. K tog the 3 sts to 1 st. Buttonholes: Make buttonholes on right front piece when piece measures: 1-1-1 cm, 10-11-11, 20-21-21, 30-32-32, 40-42-43 and 50-52-54 cm. 1 buttonhole = K tog 3rd and 4th st from mid front and cast on 1 new st on return row. Front and back piece: Worked back and forth on circular needle from mid front. Cast on 216-220-228 sts on needle size 3 mm and work 4 cm moss st. Change to needle size 4 mm and continue in M.1 with 6 moss st each side towards mid front for front bands, at the same time inc 20-32-40 sts evenly on first row = 236-252-268 sts. After M.1 continue in M.2. Remember the knitting tension and buttonholes on right front piece! When piece measures 44-46-48 cm work next row as follows from RS: 60-64-68 sts = front piece, cast off 4 sts for armhole, 108-116-124 sts = back piece, cast off 4 sts for armhole, 60-64-68 sts = front piece. Now complete each piece separately. Front piece: = 60-64-68 sts. Dec to shape the armhole on every other row: 2 sts 1-3-3 times and 1 st 2-2-4 times = 56-56-58 sts. When piece measures 51-53-55 cm cast off the 6 front sts and dec to shape the neckline on every other row: 1 st 4 times, then on every 3rd row: 1 st 13 times. At the same time when piece measures 54-56-58 cm work M.3, but work the diagram from top down. After M.3 work 2 rows moss st and 1 row stocking st. Cast off, piece measures approx 71-73-75 cm. Back piece: = 108-116-124 sts. Dec for armhole and continue in pattern as described for front piece = 100-100-104 sts. When piece measures 68-70-72 cm cast off the middle 28-28-28 sts for neck and dec to shape the neckline on every other row: 2 sts 1 time and 1 st 1 time. Cast off as described for front piece. Sleeve: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 44-44-44 sts on double pointed needle size 3 mm and work 4 cm moss st. Change to needle size 4 mm, continue in M.1 and inc 14 sts evenly on first row = 58-58-58 sts (make sure to place a pattern repeat mid upper sleeve). At the same time after the moss st inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 25-25-25 times as follows: size S on every 3rd and 4th round alternately, size M + L on every 4th round = 108-108-108 sts (incorporate inc sts in pattern as you go along). After M.1 continue in M.2. When piece measures 44-45-45 cm cast off 6 sts mid under arm and complete piece back and forth on needle. Dec to shape the sleeve cap on every other row 4 sts 7 times and cast off. Piece measures approx 50-51-51 cm. Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx 162 sts round neckline from RS on needle size 3 mm and work 1.5 cm moss st back and forth on needle from mid front. Cast off. Crochet a border along bottom edge, sleeve edges and neckline with crochet hook size 3 mm as follows: 1 dc, *3 ch, 1 dc in first ch, skip 2 sts, 1 dc*, repeat from *-*. Set in sleeves. Sew on buttons. |
