Can stocking stitch & reverse stocking stitch to achieve ridges be achieve on a circular needle? \r\nAm knitting beehive beanie, multi colour, seam tricky due to 6 varied colours, using 2 needles. Prefer 4 /5 needles or circular.

Dear Norah, this whole hat can be worked on a circular needle, using the magic loop technique indicated in the material section. You can work ridges with circular needles. Happy knitting!

Knitted hat in DROPS Alpaca Bouclé and DROPS Alpaca. Piece is knitted bottom up with double folding edge.
DROPS 253-16 |

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread and knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker thread is in the middle of these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked (= 2 stitches decreased). Decrease like this at every marker thread = 8 stitches decreased per round. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Hat is worked in the round, bottom up on circular needle, switch to double pointed needles when decreasing. HAT: Cast on 66-72-72 stitches on circular needle size 6 mm with 1 strand DROPS Alpaca Bouclé + 1 strand DROPS Alpaca (= 2 strands). Work rib (= knit 3/purl 3) for 4 cm. Knit next round while AT THE SAME TIME decreasing 2-4-0 stitches evenly = 64-68-72 stitches. Work in the round in stocking stitch until piece measures approx. 20 cm in all sizes. Remember to follow the knitting tension! Turn piece inside out and turn so work in stocking stitch over what was previously wrong side (stocking stitch is now on the opposite side of piece) - this is done so that the folding edge will have the right side out when the edge is folded up at the bottom. Knit until piece measures 34-33-34 cm from cast-on edge (approx. 6-8-8 cm remain until finished measurements). Insert 4 marker threads on needle between 2 stitches so that there are 16-17-18 stitches between each marker thread. Now begin decrease for the top of hat - read DECREASE TIP and decrease like this on every other round 5-6-6 times in total = 24-20-24 stitches. Work 1 round without decrease and then work 1 round where all stitches are knitted together 2 by 2 = 12-10-12 stitches. Cut the yarn and pull yarn through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Hat measures 40-41-42 cm from cast-on edge. Now fold the edge 8 cm up on the right side and then fold the edge 1 more time (= double folding edge). Fasten folding edge with a couple of stitches. Hat measures approx. 24-25-26 cm when it is folded. |
