I don't know how they got it to look so good in the picture, but I have to agree with someone else's comment on here that this neck warmer doesn't look flattering in real life. I think it needs decreases once you start working on the neck part, otherwise it is far too wide to even be called a neck warmer!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (back and forth): Knit all rows. 1 ridge = knit 2 rows. ENGLISH RIB (back and forth): ROW 1 (right side): 1 stitch in garter stitch, * knit 1, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, knit 1, 1 stitch in garter stitch. ROW 2 (wrong side): 1 stitch in garter stitch, * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, 1 stitch in garter stitch. ROW 3 (right side): 1 stitch in garter stitch, * knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise *, work from *-* until there is 1 yarn over and 2 stitches left, knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 stitch in garter stitch. Repeat rows 2 and 3 onwards. ENGLISH RIB (in the round): ROUND 1: ** Purl 1, * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl together the yarn over and slipped stitch *, work from *-* until there are 3 stitches left on the front piece, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise **, work from **-** over the back piece. ROUND 2: * 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit together the yarn over and slipped stitch *, work from *-* to the end of the round. ROUND 3: * Purl together the yarn over and slipped stitch, 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise *, work from *-* to end of round. Repeat rounds 2 and 3 onwards. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- NECK WARMER - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The front and back pieces are begun separately, back and forth with circular needle and bottom up. The 2 pieces are joined and the neck warmer finished in the round with circular needle. FRONT PIECE: Cast on 33-39 stitches with circular needle size 7 mm and DROPS Melody. Work as follows from the wrong side: 1 GARTER STITCH – read description above, * purl 1, knit 1 *, work from *-* until there are 2 stitches left, purl 1 and 1 garter stitch. Then work ENGLISH RIB (back and forth) – read description above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures 26-28 cm and the last row was a row 3 in the English rib, cast on 1 stitch at the end of the row = 34-40 stitches (yarn overs not included in the stitch count). Lay the piece to one side and work the back piece. BACK PIECE: Cast on 33-39 stitches with circular needle size 7 mm and DROPS Melody and work in the same way as the front piece = 34-40 stitches. Now join the 2 pieces as described below. NECK WARMER: Keep stitches from back piece on needle and place the stitches from the front piece on the same needle and begin the round at the beginning of the front piece. Insert 1 marker; the piece is now measured from here. Work ENGLISH RIB (in the round) – read description above. When the piece measures 23-25 cm from the marker, work 1 row of rib (knit 1, purl 1) – the yarn overs are worked together with their respective stitches. Cast off a little loosely with knit over knit and purl over purl or cast off with Italian cast off. |
