I was wondering how to make this pattern larger. 60 stitches with the yarn I am using will not be big enough but 80 stitches will be too large.

Dear Maria, you need to recalculate the stitches in the pattern. You would need to work a gauge (10x10) with your yarn and needle and from there, seeing how many sts and rows you have and change the amount of sts and rows to work according to the necessary cm. Take into account that, even if the pattern would be right for your yarn, the starting cast on sts may not fit you, due to a thicker or thinner leg; thus, you may need to cast on more stitches. We recommend you measure the width of your leg at the start of the sock (25 - 27 - 28 cm above the foot) and, according to the amount of cm and the gauge, calculate the necessary cast on sts. Happy knitting!

Sabrina
03.10.2017 - 18:42DROPS Design answered:

Pattern: See diagram M.1. Diagram shows 1 pattern repeat. Heel dec: Row 1 (= RS): Work row until 8-9-9 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso, turn the piece. Row 2 (= WS): Work row until 8-9-9 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P1, psso, turn the piece. Row 3: Work row until 7-8-8 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso, turn the piece. Row 4: Work row until 7-8-8 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P1, psso, turn the piece. Continue dec like this with 1 less st before each dec until there are 14 sts on row. Sock: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 60-60-60 sts on needle size 3 mm, K 1 round and continue in rib, K2/P2. Insert a Marking Thread (MT) at beg of round (= mid back). When rib measures 4 cm continue in M.1 on all sts – make sure to have K over K and P over P from rib. Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures approx 22 cm – adjust to after a full or half repeat of M.1 - keep the first 15 sts on needle for heel, slip the next 30 sts on a stitch holder (= mid upper foot), and keep the last 15 sts on needle = 30 sts for heel. Work stocking st back and forth on heel sts, at the same time dec 2-0-0 sts evenly on first row = 28-30-30 sts. When heel measures 5-5.5-6 cm insert 1 Marking Thread (MT) – now measure piece from here. Now dec for heel - see Heel dec. After heel dec pick up 12-13-14 sts on both sides of heel and slip the 30 sts from stitch holder back on needles = 68-70-72 sts. Continue in pattern as before on the 30 sts on upper foot and work remaining sts in stocking st. At the same time dec each side as follows: K tog the last 2 sts before the 30 sts on upper foot into back of loop and K tog the first 2 sts after the 30 sts. Dec like this on every other round a total of 10-9-8 times = 48-52-56 sts. When piece measures approx 18-19-21 cm from MT on heel – adjust to after a full or half repeat of M.1 (= approx 4-5-6 cm left) insert 1 MT each side with 24-26-28 sts on upper foot and 24-26-28 sts under foot. Continue in stocking st on all sts, at the same time dec for toes on each side of both MT as follows: Dec as follows before MT: K2 tog. Dec as follows after MT: K 2 tog into back of loop. Dec like this each side on every other round a total of 4-6-8 times and then on every round 5-4-3 times = 12 sts left on needle. Cut the thread, pull through remaining sts and fasten. |
