Is it true on this pattern, when Karisma and Vivaldi is used we knit always w/7mm needles. 9mm needles are required only for Snow and Vivaldi. Although GAUGE is required on Karisma and Vivaldi on LARGER NEEDLS! I made calculations and changed thread to Sky and BAlpaca Silk for main pattern. Waiting to start!

Dear Mrs Papantoniou, tension for this pattern is 14 sts x 17 rows with 1 strand Karisma + 1 strand Vivaldi in stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm - with needle size 7 mm or the needle size required to get the correct tension - you can use here Sky and Brushed Alpaca Silk instead, just remember to check your tension. Needles size 9 mm are used for sleeve edges and neck edge (whre you will work with Brushed and Snow together). Read more about tension here. Happy knitting!

Hello. Can you please advise how many balls of Snow yarn I’d need to knit the L size? Your patterns look amazing! Many thanks in advance!
30.11.2021 - 10:59DROPS Design answered:
Dear Marina, if you follow the pattern you would need 4 balls of Snow, which you use for the edges and the neck. If you want to work the whole sweater with Snow, you would need to recalculate the whole pattern because the gauge would change. Happy knitting!

Bonjour Blondel, le texte a été corrigé, l'échantillon, le dos et le devant se tricotent avec des aiguilles 7. Les manches se commencent en 9 et se terminent en 7. Bon tricot !

Gauge: 14 sts x 17 rows on larger needles with 1 strand Karisma Superwash + 1 strand Vivaldi in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm. Rib: * K 1, P 2 *, repeat * - *. Increasing tips: Inc 1 st by pulling up and knitting a st from the previous row. All increases are made on right side rows. Back: Cast on 62-66-72-78-86 sts on needles 7 mm [US 10½] with 1 strand Karisma Superwash + 1 strand Vivaldi. Knit 4 rows garter st, then change to stockinette st. When the piece measures 15-16-17-18-19 cm dec 1 st at each side = 60-64-70-76-84 sts. When the piece measures 18-19-20-21-22 cm inc 1 st at each side every 4 cm a total of 3 times = 66-70-76-82-90 sts. When the piece measures 36-37-38-39-40 cm bind off for armhole at each side every other row: 3 sts 1-1-1-2-2 times, 2 sts 1-1-2-2-3 times and 1 st 1-3-3-3-4 times = 54-54-56-56-58 sts. When the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62 cm bind off the center 20-20-22-22-24 sts for the neck. On the next row dec 1 st at each neck edge = 16 sts remain on each shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 56-58-60-62-64 cm. The Front is knit in two pieces and sewn together. Right front: Cast on 25-27-30-33-37 sts with 1 strand Karisma Superwash + 1 strand Vivaldi on needles 7 mm [US 10½]. Knit 4 rows garter st (row 1 = right side), then knit the next row as follows (from center front edge): K 1 (edge st knit in garter st), K 1, P 1, K 1, P 1, (these 5 sts are the center front band), 19-21-24-27-31 sts stockinette st and K 1 (edge st knit in garter st). Read the entire section before knitting: Continue in stockinette st and with 5 sts for the center front band. Sloping center front band: On the 3rd row after the garter st rows inc 1 st inside the 5 center front band sts every 4 rows a total of 23-23-24-25-26 times – see Increasing tips above. Side shaping: When the piece measures 15-16-17-18-19 cm dec 1 st at the side. When the piece measures 18-19-20-21-22 cm inc at the side as on back. Armhole and neck shaping: When the piece measures 36-37-38-39-40 cm bind off for armhole at the side as on back. When the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58 cm bind off for the neck as follows (row 1 = wrong side): knit 23-23-24-24-24 sts in from right shoulder (= side with armhole), bind off 8-8-8-8-10 sts for the neck, and knit to the other side as before. Then knit each side separately. Left shoulder: Continue to inc as before. Bind off at neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1-1-2-2-2 times and 1 st 2-2-1-1-1 times. Bind off when the piece measures 56-58-60-62-64 cm (there will be 6-6-6-7-7 sts on needle). Right shoulder: Continue with stockinette st and bind off at neck edge as on the left side = 16 sts remain on shoulder. Bind off when the piece measures 56-58-60-62-64 cm. Left front: Cast on and knit the same as the right, reversing shaping. Sleeve: Cast on 33-33-37-37-37 sts on needles 9 mm [US 13] with 1 strand Snow and 1 strand Vivaldi. Knit 2 rows garter st, then knit rib as follows: Sizes S + M: K 1 (edge st knit in garter st), * K 1, P 2, K 1, P 3 *, repeat * - *, finish with K 1, P 2 and K 1 (edge st knit in garter st). Sizes L + XL + XXL: K 1 (edge st knit in garter st), * K 1, P 2, K 1, P 3 *, repeat * - *, finish with K 1 (edge st knit in garter st). When the piece measures 4 cm dec all P 3 to P 2 = 29-29-32-32-32 sts. Continue with rib until the piece measures 17 cm, then knit 2 rows garter st. Change to smaller needles and 1 strand Karisma Superwash + 1 strand Vivaldi and knit stockinette st, increasing 10 sts evenly distributed on the 1st row = 39-39-42-42-42 sts. When the piece measures 20 cm inc 1 st at each side every 3.5-3-3-2.5-2 cm a total of 8-9-9-10-12 times = 55-57-60-62-66 sts. When sleeve measures 49-49-48-47-45 cm bind off for sleeve cap at each side every other row: 4 sts 1 time, 3 sts 2-2-1-1-1 times, 2 sts 1-1-2-2-2 times and 1 st 0-1-2-4-4 times, then 2 sts at each side until the piece measures 55-56-57-58-58 cm, then bind off 3 sts 1 time at each side. Bind off the remaining sts, the piece measures approx. 56-57-58-59-59 cm. Assembly: Lay right front over left, so that the neck opening lies over the other. Sew shoulder seams, sew through both layers where the fronts overlap. Neckband: Pick up approx. 53-65 sts around the neck on smaller short circular needles with 1 strand Karisma Superwash + 1 strand Vivaldi; join and K 1 row (right side), decreasing evenly distributed to 39-39-42-42-45 sts. Change to larger short circular needles and 1 strand Snow + 1 strand Vivaldi. P 1 row, K 1 row and then knit rib. When the collar measures 12 cm inc all P 2 to P 3. When the collar measures 14 cm K 1 row then bind off with P sts. Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams using edge sts as a seam allowance. Lay work flat, sew a st at the lower edge where the two fronts overlap. The opening will be approx. 14 cm high. Sew the two fronts with small sts on the underside of the 5 center band sts, from shoulder down to center front opening. |
