Gracias

Instructions for the "Little Winter Knight" say, at one point: "Work in stockinette stitch ... until 2 rows have been worked back and forth." Does that mean each of 2 rows should be worked back and forth (total 4 rows)? Or does it mean one back and the other forth ( 2 rows total)?
06.05.2021 - 17:20DROPS Design answered:
Dear Sally, "2 rows knitted back and forth" means 2 rows. Those two rows should be knitted "flat", or back and forth on the needles, as opposed to on the round, but there are 2 rows only, not 4. Happy Knitting!

Knitted hat / balaclava in DROPS Snow with rib and neck for children. Size 3 to 10 years
DROPS Children 34-34 |

---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- GARTER STITCH (worked in the round): 1 ridge vertically = 2 rounds. Knit 1 round and purl 1 round. ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: Worked in the round on circular needle, bottom up. Divide for opening, work back and forth, before putting the piece together again and work in the round. Switch to double pointed needles when needed. HAT: Cast on 60-64-68 stitches on circular needle size 8 mm. Knit 1 round, then work rib knit 2/purl 2. Work rib for 3 cm, then knit 1 round while at the same time decreasing 10-10-10 stitches evenly = 50-54-58 stitches. When piece measures 7-7-7 cm, decrease 6-6-6 stitches evenly = 44-48-52 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch until piece measures 13-13-13 cm. Work next round as follows: Work 2 stitches in GARTER STITCH - see explanation above, knit 2/purl 2 over the next 12-12-12 stitches, knit 2 and 2 stitches in garter stitch, knit the rest of round as before. Continue like this for 3 cm. Work next round as follows: Work 2 stitches in garter stitch, cast off the next 14-14-14 stitches, work 2 stitches in garter stitch and knit the rest of round. Turn piece, now work back and forth over the 30-34-38 stitches on needle. Work in stocking stitch with 2 stitches in garter stitch in each side until 2 rows have been worked back and forth. Now work piece in the round again. Work over the 30-34-38 stitches, at the end of next row from right side cast on 14-14-14 new stitches and work in the round over all stitches (= 44-48-52 stitches). Work as follows from beginning of round: 2 stitches in garter stitch, knit 2/purl 2 over the next 12-12-12 stitches, knit 2 and 2 stitches in garter stitch, knit the rest of round as before. Now work piece from where the 14-14-14 stitches where cast on. Continue with stocking stitch and rib until piece measures 3 cm, then work stocking stitch over all stitches. When piece measures 9-10-11 cm, insert 8 markers in piece as follows: In size 3/5 there is alternately 5 and 6 stitches between marker threads, in size 6/8 there are 6 stitches between marker threads, and in size 9/10 there is alternately 6 and 7 stitches between marker threads. On next round decrease 1 stitch before each marker, decrease by knitting 2 stitches together. Decrease like this every 4th round 4 times in total = 12-16-20 stitches. On next round knit all stitches together 2 by 2 = 6-8-10 stitches. Work last round as follows: Knit stitches together 2 by 2 = 3-4-5 stitches. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Hat measures approx. 15-16-17 cm from opening and approx. 34-35-36 in total. |
