I cannot seem to get started. I am stumped with instructions to cast on 8, then, p1ros from WS while at the same time inc 8 sts evenly =16 sts. Then the increase tip says to inc from RS with 1 YO. Do I start with RS row and increase evenly with k1,YO, k1 YO.. until I have 16 sts? I have tried and always end up with 15 stitiches because the last YO won't stay on the needle. HELP
31.03.2016 - 04:14DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Morrison, on the first row when you P all sts, inc 8 sts evenly by working each st into front and back of loop so that you have 16 sts at the end of the row. On next row, insert 2 markers 4 sts in from each side and inc every 6h row as explained. Happy knitting!

STRIPES: Work entire pattern in stripes. First work 14 rows with medium pink, then work stripes as follows: * 4 rows off white, 4 rows medium pink *, repeat from *-* until finished measurements. INCREASE TIP: All increases are done from the right side! Work until there is 1 stitch left before marker, make 1 yarn over, knit 2 (marker is between these 2 stitches), make 1 yarn over. Repeat on the other marker. On the next row, purl the yarn overs twisted to avoid a hole. ---------------------------------------------------------- SLIPPER: Worked back and forth in one from front to back with the seam mid on top of foot. Cast on 8-10-11-12-13 sts on needle size 5 mm with medium pink (let the thread end be approx. 50 cm for sewing the slipper tog when finished). P 1 row from WS while at the same time inc 8-8-10-10-11-12 sts evenly = 16-17-20-21-23-25 sts on needle. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Insert 2 markers in the piece; 4-4-5-5-6-6 sts in from each side. Work in stocking st and STRIPES - see explanation above, AT THE SAME TIME on 6th row inc 1 st on each side of the 2 markers (= 4 inc sts) – read INCREASE TIP. Repeat inc on every row from RS 6 more times = 44-45-48-49-51-53 sts. Continue to work until piece measures 15-15-16-18-20-22 cm. Now cast on 13-14-15-16-17-18 new sts in each side = 70-73-78-81-85-89 sts. Continue in stocking st and with stripes. When piece measures 31-33-36-40-43-48 cm, loosely cast off all sts. ASSEMBLY: Sew thread through sts on toe and tighten tog, sew seam mid on top of foot in front loop of outermost st up to the inc 13-14-15-16-17-18 sts. Sew tog mid back, edge to edge to avoid a chunky seam. FELTING: The piece can be felted either in the washing machine or the tumble dryer – read description below. Remember: Subsequent washes are as for a normal wool garment. IN WASHING MACHINE: Washing machines will vary when felting. If the piece is not felted enough, it can be felted again. If it is felted too much, it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet. DO THE FOLLOWING: Lay the piece in the washing machine, using a programme of approx. 40 minutes (not a wool programme). Wash at 40 degrees without pre-wash, detergent is optional. After washing, shape the piece while it is still wet. IN TUMBLE DRYER: Felting in a tumble dryer gives good control over the degree of felting. The tumble dryer can be opened during drying to check the size of the piece. If it is not felted enough it can be thoroughly wetted and felted again. If it is felted too much it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet. DO THE FOLLOWING: Lay the piece in water so it becomes completely wet, then place it in the tumble dryer and begin the drying process. Dry to the desired size, checking regularly. |
