Dear Mrs Hunt, in this video for another kind of mittens (with increases for thumb, but don't increase for this pattern, just as in the written pattern); we show from time code 04:18 how to slip stitches for thumb on a thread and how to cast on the new stitches over the stitches fort thumb. We cast on just 1 stitch in the video, but cast on 10 just as in this pattern. Happy knitting!

Posso usare ferri diritti?
30.11.2017 - 14:07DROPS Design answered:
Buongiorno Maria. Buon lavoro!

I think an odd number is much better if not the only way! You dont have 2 equal stiches on every row anymore.

When you reduce the stiches and begin the seed stich, don't you need an odd number of stiches in order for the seed stich to work?
02.01.2013 - 06:33DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Klein, the mittens are worked in the round, so that you will repeat 2 sts : K1,P1 and K over P and P over K all the way, you then need an even number of sts : 42 or 48 sts, i.e. K1,P1 a total of 21-24 times. Happy knitting!

MOSS ST: ROUND 1: * K 1, P 1 *, repeat from *-*. ROUND 2: K over P and P over K. Repeat 2nd round. -------------------------------------------------------- RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on 54-58 sts on double pointed needles size 3 mm with Lima and K 1 round. Then work rib = K 1/P 1. When rib measures 7-7 cm, switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and work in MOSS ST - see explanation above - while AT THE SAME TIME on 1st round dec 12-10 sts evenly = 42-48 sts. When piece measures 12-13 cm, slip the first 8-10 sts on a stitch holder for thumb and cast on 8-10 new sts behind sts on stitch holder. Continue until piece measures 25-26 cm, and then work as follows: * K 1, K 2 tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 28-32 sts. K 1 round. Work next round as follows: * K 2, K 2 tog *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 21-24 sts. K 1 round. Work next round as follows: K 2 tog over 20-22 sts, finish with K 1-0 = 11-12 sts. K 1 round. Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining sts and tighten tog. THUMB: Slip the 8-10 thumb sts back on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Knit up 8-10 sts in the edge behind the thumb = 16-20 sts. Continue in moss st in the round until thumb measures 5-6 cm. K all sts tog 2 by 2 = 8-10 sts. K 1 round. Work all sts tog 2 by 2 = 4-5 sts. Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining sts and tighten tog. LEFT MITTEN: Work as right mitten. |
