Thanks for response DROPS. I am glad I asked because in English knitting terminology M1 is always "make one".

When in this pattern do I start the chart for the color work? Also, please explain this: " Now work shortened rows mid back as follows: K 10 sts past marker mid back, turn and P 20 sts, turn and K 30 sts, turn and P 40 sts, turn and K 50 sts, turn and P 60 sts, turn and K sts back to mid back." Does this mean I work the short (K10, P20 sts etc) and keep turning my work around so these are incomplete or partial rows?

Dear Nicole, the colour pattern will be worked on yoke, when it says to work M.1 (= see diagram at the bottom of the page - read more about diagrams here). Then the short rows are worked for an elevation on back piece - see this video, you will work alternately from RS (= knitting stitches) and from WS (= purling stitches). Happy knitting!
