What does it mean when it says 2 garter stitches? Doesn't garter stitch apply a whole row or bunch of rows? How do I do 2 garter stitches?
14.02.2021 - 02:19DROPS Design answered:
Dear Cara, knit two garter stitch mean that on that two stitches (not the whole row, but only on those two stitces, you so knit stitches in every row. (Or of you knit on the round, then you knit the stitches in one round and purl them in the next one, etc. Happy Knitting!

Isn't there a mistake in the diagram. It is the same as the one in pattern 0-545. the hat is knit in zig-zags and the diagram should look different.

BUTTONHOLES: Make 5-5-6 buttonholes on right front band as follows from WS: 1 buttonhole = K2 tog and make 1 YO. Work YO into back of loop on return row in order not to make the hole too big. Work 2 garter sts, P2, * make 1 buttonhole, 6 sts in rib *, repeat from *-* a total of 4-4-5 times, make 1 buttonhole and work remaining sts as before. INCREASING TIP: Inc 1 st by making 1 YO. Sew on buttons to fit buttonholes. ------------------------------------------------------- HAT: Circumference: approx 54-56-58 cm Materials: DROPS SNOW 150-150-200 g colour no 24, yellow DROPS POINTED NEEDLES size 7 mm – or size needed to get 12 sts x 24 rows in garter st = 10 x 10 cm. INCREASING TIP: Inc 1 st by making 1 YO. Work YO into back of loop on return row to avoid a hole. DECREASING TIP: At beg of row: slip first st as if to K, K1, psso. At the end of row: slip the last but one st, K the last st, psso. HAT: Cast on 25-26-27 sts on needle size 7 mm with Snow and work 6 rows garter st – see above. Continue in garter st, AT THE SAME TIME inc and dec on every other row (= every row from RS) – SEE INCREASING and DECREASING TIP: Inc 1 st at the right side and dec 1 st at the left side of piece on every other row (= every row from RS) until piece measures 9-10-11 cm. Dec 1 st on the right side and inc 1 st on the left side of piece on every other row (= every row from RS) until piece measures 18-20-22 cm. Inc 1 st at the right side and dec 1 st at the left side of piece on every other row until piece measures 22.5-25-27.5 cm (half the hat). Dec 1 st on the right side and inc 1 st on the left side of piece on every other row until piece measures 27-30-33 cm. Inc 1 st at the right side and dec 1 st at the left side of piece on every other row until piece measures 36-40-44 cm. Dec 1 st on the right side and inc 1 st on the left side of piece on every other row until piece measures 45-50-55 cm. ASSEMBLY: The front = the part of piece with 3 whole points and the back = the part of piece with 2 whole points and 2 half points. Now sew the hat tog as follows – see chart: Sew hat tog edge to edge by sewing the first half point to the first half of the first whole point. Then sew the other half of the first whole point to the first half of second whole point, and the other half of the second whole point to the last half point. Sew hat tog mid back. TASSEL: Cut threads measuring 36 cm each and fold them double (tassel = 18 cm). Cut enough threads to make a “full” tassel. Gather all the threads by tightening a thread round the middle. Attach tassel to the top of hat so that all the thread ends fall over the hat. Cut open the double thread ends. |
