---------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN: ---------------------------------------------------------- DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker thread as follows: Work until 3 stitches remain before marker thread, slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked, knit 2 (marker thread is between these 2 stitches), knit the next 2 stitches together (= 2 stitches decreased). ---------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------- HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE GARMENT: Worked in the round on circular needle, bottom up. Switch to double pointed needles when needed. Embroider on flowers at the end. HAT: Cast on 93-99 stitches on circular needle size 3.5 mm with 1 strand DROPS Sky and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (= 2 strands). Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (= knit 1/purl 2) for 3½ cm. Knit 1 round while at the same time decreasing 15 stitches evenly = 78-84 stitches. Switch to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Work in stocking stitch in the round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When hat measures approx. 18-20 cm, insert 6 marker threads in piece as follows: * Knit 13-14 stitches, insert 1 marker *, work from *-* the entire round. Decrease 1 stitch on each side of every marker – read DECREASE TIP (= 12 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 4th round 4 times in total = 30-36 stitches. On next round knit all stitches together 2 by 2 = 15-18 stitches remain. Knit 1 round. On next round knit all stitches together 2 by 2 until 1-0 stitches remain on round, knit 1-0 stitches = 8-9 stitches. Cut the yarn and pull yarn through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Hat measures approx. 26-28 cm from top and down. EMBROIDERING: Now embroider flowers on the hat. SHORT EXPLANATION OF FLOWER: Flower measures approx. 4.5 to 5 cm in diameter. Begin with a knot in the middle of flower. Then embroider chain stitches around the knot. FLOWER: Begin by embroidering a backstitch knot - see diagram A and diagram explanation - this knot is embroidered with double yarn DROPS Kid-Silk. Cut and fasten the yarn. This is the centre of flower. Then embroider single chain stitches around the flower's centre with DROPS Air - see diagram B and diagram explanation - embroider chain stitches with single thread. Embroider approx. 7 to 10 stitches around the centre and each stitch is approx. 1.5-2 cm long. Fasten off. Place the flowers as follows - measurements refer to centre of flowers: Embroider flower-1 approx. 5 cm from cast-on edge Embroider flower-2 approx. 9 cm from cast-on edge and approx. 5 cm from flower-1. |
