Could you kindly explain how to : cast on 1 stitch above the thumb-stitches? Thanks for your help.

Hi SDS8, After you have placed the thumb stitches on a stitch holder, continue the hand in the round with the thumb on the outside. The 1 cast on stitch is worked on the first round behind the thumb-stitches (when you come to where you would previously have worked the thumb stitches, cast on 1 stitch, then continue working the stitches on the other side of the thumb). Regards, Drops Team.

Hilsen Drops Team.

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- DECREASE TIP: Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows: Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). Decrease like this at each marker-thread = 6 stitches decreased on the round. INCREASE TIP: INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE LEFT: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the front and knit through the back loop. INCREASE ONE STITCH TOWARDS THE RIGHT: Use the left needle to pick up the strand between 2 stitches from the previous row, pick up the strand from the back and knit through the front loop. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round, bottom up with circular needle. Change to double pointed needles when necessary as you decrease. HAT: Cast on 92-98-102 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and 1 strand DROPS Melody or 2 strands DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 15-15-16 cm. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 14-14-12 stitches evenly spaced = 78-84-90 stitches. Work stocking stitch until the piece measures 25-25-26 cm (approx. 8-9-10 cm left to finished length). Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Insert 3 marker-threads between 2 stitches, with 26-28-30 stitches between each thread. Now begin to decrease - read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 2nd round 9-10-11 times = 24 stitches. On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 12 stitches. Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 33-34-36 cm from the cast-on edge. Fold up the bottom 10-10-11 cm, the hat now measures approx. 23-24-25 cm. ------------------------------------------------------- WRIST-WARMERS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, from the cuff upwards. RIGHT WRIST-WARMER: Cast on 32-34-36 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and 1 strand DROPS Melody or 2 strands DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk – make sure the cast-on edge is not tight. Work rib in the round (purl 1, knit 1) for 5-6-6 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 3-3-3 stitches evenly spaced by knitting 2 together = 29-31-33 stitches. Continue stocking stitch, increasing 1 stitch on one side of the wrist-warmer as follows – read INCREASE TIP: Knit 8-9-10, increase 1 stitch towards the left, work to end of round as before (= 1 increased stitch). Increase like this (after the first 8-9-10 stitches) every 2nd round a total of 7-8-9 times = 36-39-42 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Knit 1 round. The piece measures approx. 11-13-14 cm from the cast-on edge. Work the next round as follows: Place the first 8-9-10 stitches on a thread for the thumb, cast on 1 stitch above the thumb-stitches, knit to end of round = 29-31-33 stitches. Continue stocking stitch in the round until the piece measures 16-19-21 cm from the cast-on edge. Cast off slightly loosely. THUMB: Place the 8-9-10 thumb-stitches on double pointed needles size 4.5 mm and knit up 3 stitches behind the thumb (1 stitch before the cast-on stitch, the cast-on stitch and 1 stitch after the cast-on stitch) = 11-12-13 stitch. Work stocking stitch in the round for 2-2½-3 cm. Cast off slightly loosely. LEFT WRIST-WARMER: Cast on 32-34-36 stitches with double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and 1 strand DROPS Melody or 2 strands DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk – make sure the cast-on edge is not tight. Work rib in the round (purl 1, knit 1) for 5-6-6 cm. Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 3-3-3 stitches evenly spaced by knitting 2 together = 29-31-33 stitches. Continue stocking stitch, increasing 1 stitch on one side of the wrist-warmer as follows – remember INCREASE TIP: Work until there are 8-9-10 stitches left on the round, increase 1 stitch towards the right, knit to end of round (= 1 increased stitch). Increase like this (before the last 8-9-10 stitches) every 2nd round a total of 7-8-9 times = 36-39-42 stitches. Knit 1 round. The piece measures approx. 11-13-14 cm from the cast-on edge. Work the next round as follows: Work until there are 8-9-10 stitches left on the round, place these 8-9-10 stitches on a thread for the thumb, cast on 1 stitch above the thumb-stitches = 29-31-33 stitches. Continue stocking stitch in the round until the piece measures 16-19-21 cm from the cast-on edge. Cast off slightly loosely. |
