Hello I’m about to start the decreases in the pattern. Should the right side of the hat be facing me or on the other side?

Hi Joann, The right side should be towards you. Happy Easter!

Could I knit the ribbing but swap the main for stockinette?
04.02.2025 - 12:15DROPS Design answered:
Dear Lou, it might then be wiser to use a pattern worked in stocking stitch after ribbing edge to let the number of stitches work (you need more stitches with rib than with stocking stitch for same width/circumference) - see some example here. Happy knitting!

I’d like to knit the Winter Smiles Hat but in a teal colour so I thought of combining Baby Marino in North Sea shade together with Kid Silk in the Petrol colour. How much yarn would I need of the two , and would the tension work ? thank you :)
04.12.2024 - 10:29DROPS Design answered:
Dear Gilly, since you use 2 thread of group A yarns to substitute 1 group C yarn you should be able to work this pattern with the same gauge. But you will need to make a swatch with the chosen yarn anyway to check that the needle size is correct and that your gauge will match the pattern's. On the other hand, to calculate the amount of yarn, you will need to calculate the full yardage with DROPS Air for your chosen size and the necessary balls of DROPS Kid-Silk and DROPS Baby Merino that you need for this yardage; please check the following lesson: https://www.garnstudio.com/lesson.php?id=14&cid=19. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up. Change to double pointed needles when necessary. HAT: Cast on 108-120 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and Air. Purl 1 round. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue until the piece measures 27-29 cm; there is approx. 7 cm left to finished length. Now work A.1 (= 12 stitches) a total of 9-10 times on the round. When A.1 has been completed in height there are 18-20 stitches on the needles. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 9-10 stitches. Cut the strand and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 34-36 cm. Fold up approx. 10 cm on the right side. |
