Hi, why is the gauge in stockinette, of there is no stockinette in the entire pattern? Why not give the gauge in the ribbed pattern?
07.10.2025 - 23:43DROPS Design answered:
Hi Leena, As long as your knitting tension is correct in stockinette, it should be correct in the rib too. Regards, Drops Team.

Hello, I knitted the Winter Smiles hat in size S for myself, but I have quite a small head and with time it stretched a bit and became too big for me. What changes would I need to make in order to obtain a smaller size? My head circumference is 54cm. Thanks!
22.09.2025 - 19:40DROPS Design answered:
Dear Mrs Baggi Fillisetti, you can then follow the first size which fits a head circumference 54/56 cm - remember to check and then keep the tension. Happy knitting!

Can I make this hat with alpaca and kidsilk together?
09.08.2025 - 01:57DROPS Design answered:
Dear Josias, yes, you can work this hat with 1 thread of DROPS Alpaca + 1 thread of DROPS Kid-Silk together instead of 1 thread of DROPS Air. Happy knitting!

19.07.2025 - 00:43DROPS Design answered:
Hei Teresa. Du starter med 120 masker i str. L / XL, så strikkes det en vrangbord til arbeidet måler 9 cm. Deretter strikkes A.1 10 ganger i bredden = 12 masker i A.1 x 10 ganger = 120 masker. Når A.1 er strikket ferdig i høyden er det felt 10 masker hver gang A.1 er strikket = A.1 består nå av 2 masker x 10 ganger = 20 masker igjen på pinnen. Strikk deretter 2 og 2 masker rett sammen = 10 masker. mvh DROPS Design

Thank you for your answer to my question which has helped but now I am stuck again. On the second round of the A.1 pattern you said to begin with K2. Doesn’t this change the rib pattern ?
01.06.2025 - 13:40DROPS Design answered:
Dear Vivien, when we work decreases it's very difficult to maintain the pattern completely; so we will have slight changes in the rib as we decrease, but they won't be too noticeable. In the previous round you start with knit 2 together, knit 1 purl 1. So it should look like knit 2, purl 1 (as opposed to the knit 1/purl 1 rib over the other stitches of the chart). Now we will continue like that, working knit 1 over the knitted together stitches. So we keep the pattern from the previous round. In the next round we will decrease this first knit stitch, so we will have "knit 1 (knit 2 together)", purl 1 over all stitches on the round. Happy knitting!

I have continued knitting until my work measures 29cm. I am up to the section of the pattern where it says 'Now work A.1 (= 12 stitches) a total of 9-10 times on the round.' According to the diagram I have to pearl one knit one but the first stitch on my needle is a plain stitch. Won't this change the pattern ?
29.05.2025 - 12:16DROPS Design answered:
Dear Vivien, no that's correct, just follow diagram as shown, this means you will knit together the first 2 stitches (which are K1 and P1 from rib below), then continue rib over the next 10 sts (for a 12 sts repeat). On next round, each repeat starts with K2. Happy knitting!

I've just finished two of these hats using Drops Air, one in brown and the other in pink. I've made exactly the same size, same needles, same number of stitches etc, yet the brown one has turned out approximately 2" bigger all over! Exactly the same has happened with two cardigans I've made with the same wool. My question is, has anyone else had problems like this with the brown Air yarn? Thank you.
14.04.2025 - 17:16DROPS Design answered:
Dear Sue, did you check that the gauge is the same in both cases? Sometimes, when you work the same garment twice, the gauge will vary,. Even if the gauge in the swatch is the same, because you are more careful when working it, you need to check your gauge as you work, to see that it doesn't change while working the hat. Happy knitting!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up. Change to double pointed needles when necessary. HAT: Cast on 108-120 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and Air. Purl 1 round. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1). REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Continue until the piece measures 27-29 cm; there is approx. 7 cm left to finished length. Now work A.1 (= 12 stitches) a total of 9-10 times on the round. When A.1 has been completed in height there are 18-20 stitches on the needles. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 9-10 stitches. Cut the strand and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 34-36 cm. Fold up approx. 10 cm on the right side. |
