I don't feel comfortable doing steek, have never done it before. Is there another modified version of this cardigan that does not involve steeking?

Dear Sir Napsalot, please understand that with many thousands of patterns available for free on our pages, we cannot modify them to each individual request. However, if you are comfortable to knit stranded not only at the right side, but of teh wrong side as well, the pattern can be easily adapted. Just leave out the steek stitches and knit the piece back and forth. Happy Knitting!

Charlotte

Gauge: 22 sts and 30 rows in pattern = 10 x 10 cm Pattern: See chart. One chart equals one repeat of the pattern. The pattern is seen from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette st. Border: Knit 3 cm in stockinette st, purl 1 row (for folding edge - measure the work from here), knit 3 cm in stockinette st. Short model: If a short model is desired reduce the measurements by 14 (16-16) cm . Finished length = 54 (58-64) cm . Pick up approximately 20 sts fewer for front band and bind off for 1 buttonhole fewer. Reduce the yarn amount by 50 g Marine and 50 g Corn Blue. Body: Cardigan is knit in the round, after the Border, with steeks at the center front and armholes. Cast on 240 (264-288) sts on smaller needles with marine and knit Border back and forth on the needles. Change to larger needles, cast on 5 sts for the center front steek, join, and knit Pattern 1 once. (The steek sts are not knit into the pattern). Knit the rest with Pattern 2. When the work measures 45 (50-56) cm , knit the next row as follows: 60 (66-72) sts for the front, cast on 5 sts for underarm steek, 120 (132-144) sts for the back, cast on 5 sts for underarm steek, 60 (66-72) sts for the front (the steek sts are not knit into the pattern). When the work measures 62 (68-74) cm , bind off the center front 26 (28-28) sts (+ 5 sts) for the neck and knit the rest of the work back and forth on the needles. Bind off at each neck edge every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times. When the work measures 66 (72-78) cm , bind off the center back 36 (38-38) sts for the neck. Bind off at each back neck edge every other row: 2 sts 1 time. Bind off when the work measures 68 (74-80) cm . Sleeves: Cast on 56 (58-58) sts on smaller double pointed needles with marine. Join, being careful not to twist the sts. Place a marker at the join and knit Border. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 3 (centering the pattern on the sleeve). When the work measures 5 cm , inc 1 st on each side of the marker 23 (24-24) times every 4th row. 102 (106-106) sts. After Pattern 3, knit the rest with Pattern 2. When the work measures 45 (44-43) cm , put 5 sts on each side of the marker on a holder. Then put sts on the holder for sleeve caps on each side of the work every other row: 5 sts 4 times. The work measures approximately 48 (47-46) cm . Then put the sts from the holder back on the needles and knit 2 cm in reverse stockinette st for the seam allowance over the cut steek edge on the body. Bind off. Assembly: Sew a marker thread down into the center of the increased sts on each underarm and at the center of the front. Sew two machine seams on each side of the marker thread 1/2 st to each side. Cut up the center marker thread. Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approximately 130 sts along the left front with marine on smaller circular needles and knit Border back and forth on the needles. Repeat along the right front, but after 1 cm make 6 buttonholes evenly distributed on the row (take into consideration that there will be an additional buttonhole on the neck edge). 1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row. Fold all edges over against the wrong side and sew. Pick up approximately 120 sts around the neck and over the button band on smaller circular needles with marine. Knit Border back and forth on the needles for 2 cm (instead of 3 cm ) but after the first row bind off for a buttonhole over those on the button band. Bind off and fold the edge over against the wrong side and sew. Sew the sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: Sew alternately a st in the last row of knitting on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a st on the body after the machine seam. Turn the sweater out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut steek edge on the body by hand. Sew on the buttons. |
