Ref. Round 4. Very confusing. When it says work a stitch is that still a half treble crochet or a double crochet ? Also, where is the “side of a stitch “ ? Cannot understand this at all. Do you have a name for this type of stitch that I can look up elsewhere ? Or do you have a video to show how it’s done please ? Does it have a name ie. Like puff stitch, just need to know so I can look it up. Have purchased your Drops yarn to make this so really want to finish the project.

Bon crochet!

Is it possible to get a chart/diagram? It is very hard to crochet following written text. Thank you, Nat!

------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- CROCHET INFO: At the beginning of rounds of normal half-treble crochets, replace the first stitch with 2 chain stitches; the round ends with 1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain stitch. ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- CAT MAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in the round, from the middle outwards. The whole mat is worked with 2 strands. MAT: Using crochet hook size 10 mm and 2 strands Snow, work 5 chain stitches and form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. Read CROCHET INFO in explanations above! ROUND 1: Work 11 half-treble crochets around the chain-stitch ring. ROUND 2: On this round work in the back loops. Work 2 half-treble crochets in all stitches = 22 half-treble crochets. ROUND 3: On this round, work in the back loops. Work 2 half-treble crochets in each stitch until there is 1 stitch left, work 3 half-treble crochets in the last stitch = 45 half-treble crochets. ROUND 4: On this round, work in the back loops. Make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 6 loops and work 1 chain stitch (this makes 1 «star hole» at the top of the 6 worked-together stitches). * Crochet up 1 stitch in the hole, 1 stitch in the side of the last of the 6 stitches, 1 stitch in the same stitch as the 6th stitch was worked previously, crochet up 1 stitch in each of the next 2 stitches = 6 loops on the hook, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all the loops and work 1 chain stitch *, work from *-* to end of round. Finish with 1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 22 stars. ROUND 5: Work 2 chain stitches, then 2 half-treble crochets in each star hole to the end of the round and finish with 1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 45 half-treble crochets. The piece measures approx. 20 cm in diameter. ROUND 6: On this round, work in the back loops. Work half-treble crochets AT THE SAME TIME as you increase 28 half-treble crochets evenly spaced as follows: Work 2 chain stitches, * work 2 half-treble crochets in each of the next 2 stitches, 1 half-treble crochet in the next stitch *, work from *-* a total of 14 times, work 1 half-treble crochet in each of the last 2 stitches = 73 half-treble crochets. ROUND 7: On this round, work in the back loops. Work 3 chain stitches, crochet up 1 stitch in the 2nd chain stitch from the hook, 1 stitch in the 3rd chain stitch from the hook, 1 stitch in the first stitch on the round (= the same stitch as the chain stitches came from) and work 1 chain stitch in each of the next 2 stitches = 6 loops on the hook. Finish with 1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 36 stars. ROUND 8: Work 2 chain stitches, then 2 half-treble crochets in each star hole to the end of the round and finish with 1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 73 half-treble crochets. The piece measures approx. 32 cm in diameter. ROUND 9: On this round, work in the back loops. Work half-treble crochets AT THE SAME TIME as you increase 28 half-treble crochets evenly spaced as follows: Work 2 chain stitches, * work 2 half-treble crochets in the next stitch, 1 half-treble crochet in each of the next 2 stitches, 2 half-treble crochets in the next stitch and 1 half-treble crochet in the next stitch *, work from *-* a total of 14 times, work 1 half-treble crochet in each of the last 2 stitches = 101 half-treble crochets. ROUND 10: On this round, work in the back loops. Make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 6 loops and work 1 chain stitch (this makes 1 «star hole» at the top of the 6 worked-together stitches). * Crochet up 1 stitch in the hole, 1 stitch in the side of the last of the 6 stitches, 1 stitch in the same stitch as the 6th stitch was worked in previously, crochet up 1 stitch in each of the next 2 stitches = 6 loops on the hook, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all the loops and work 1 chain stitch *, work from *-* to end of round. Finish with 1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 50 stars. ROUND 11: Work 2 chain stitches, then 2 half-treble crochets in each star hole to the end of the round and finish with 1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 101 half-treble crochets. The piece measures approx. 42 cm in diameter. FELTING: The piece can be felted either in the washing machine or the tumble dryer – read description below. Remember: Subsequent washes are as for a normal wool garment. IN WASHING MACHINE: Washing machines will vary when felting. If the piece is not felted enough, it can be felted again. If it is felted too much, it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet. DO THE FOLLOWING: Lay the piece in the washing machine, using a programme of approx. 40 minutes (not a wool programme). Wash at 40 degrees without pre-wash, detergent is optional. After washing, shape the piece while it is still wet. IN TUMBLE DRYER: Felting in a tumble dryer gives good control over the degree of felting. The tumble dryer can be opened during drying to check the size of the piece. If it is not felted enough it can be thoroughly wetted and felted again. If it is felted too much it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet. DO THE FOLLOWING: Lay the piece in water so it becomes completely wet, then place it in the tumble dryer and begin the drying process. Dry to the desired size, checking regularly. |
