Please advise measurements for the sizes as I'm not sure what size I am and as it's a fitting top, I want to get it right. Thanks

Dear Denise, scrolling down the page you'll find a measurement chart: compare then with a garment you have and you like and you'll find the right size. Happy knitting!

With regards to the sleeves on this pattern is it possible to use a circular needle insted of double pointed needles?

Dear Mrs Beard, you can use a circular needle and work them in the round using technique of magic loop - see video below - or to work them back and forth read more here. Happy knitting!

GARTER ST (in the round): K 1 round, P 1 round GARTER ST (back and forth on needle): K all rows. KNITTING TIP: If your knitting tension is too tight, the raglan will be too short and the armhole too small. You may compensate for this by working 1 extra round without dec with regular intervals in between rounds with dec. DECREASING TIP (applies to raglan): Dec as follows from RS: Before marker: K2 tog After marker: slip1 st as if to K, K1, psso Dec as follows from WS (after dividing piece for neck): Before marker: P2 tog into back of loop After marker: P2 tog. -------------------------------------------------------- BODY PIECE: Worked in the round on circular needle. Cast on 280-304-328-360-400-440 sts on circular needle size 4 mm with Muskat. Work 2 rounds stocking st, 4 rounds garter st - see above - and now continue in stocking st. When piece measures 41 cm change to circular needle size 2.5 mm, K 1 round and continue in rib, K1/P1. Insert 2 markers in piece with 140-152-164-180-200-220 sts between each (to mark the sides). When piece measures 48-49-50-51-52-53 cm cast off 10 sts each side for armhole (= 5 sts on each side of marker) = 260-284-308-340-380-420 sts. Put piece aside and knit the sleeves. SLEEVE: Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 112-118-124-130-136-142 sts on double pointed needles size 4 mm with Muskat. Insert a marker at beg of round (= mid under arm). Work 2 rounds stocking st, 4 rounds garter st and now continue in stocking st. When piece measures 14 cm change to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm, work 1 round stocking st and continue in rib, K1/P1. When piece measures 37-37-36-36-35-35 cm cast off 5 sts on each side of marker = 102-108-114-120-126-132 sts. Put piece aside and knit the other sleeve. YOKE: SEE KNITTING TIP! Slip sleeves on the same circular needle size 2.5 mm as body piece where cast off for armholes = 464-500-536-580-632-684 sts. Insert a marker in all transitions between body piece and sleeves = 4 markers. Continue in rib, K1/P1, AT THE SAME TIME dec for raglan – SEE DECREASING TIP! NOTE! Make the first 2 dec on body piece only and not on the sleeves. Dec on every other row a total of 15-15-16-16-17-17 times and then on every row 22-25-27-30-32-35 times. NOTE! On rows with no dec K 1 st on each side of markers from RS. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 49-50-51-52-53-54 cm divide the piece mid front and continue back and forth on needle as follows: 5 garter sts, * K1/P1 * , repeat from *-* until 5 sts remain, K 1 st, 4 garter sts and cast on 1 new st at the end of row. Now continue with 5 garter sts each side towards mid front and the remaining sts as before. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 57-58-59-60-61-62 cm slip 11-14-17-20-27-34 sts each side towards mid front on stitch holders for neck. Cast off to shape the neckline each side at the beg of every row from mid front: 2 sts 4-4-4-5-5-5 times and 1 st 5 times. When all dec are complete there are 129-135-141-151-165-179 sts on row. Now pick up 33-36-39-42-49-56 sts (incl sts on stitch holders) along neckline on each front piece = 195-207-219-235-263-291 sts. K 2 rows, AT THE SAME TIME dec 31-37-41-51-73-93 sts evenly on first row = 164-170-178-184-190-198 sts. Cast off. ASSEMBLY: Sew opening under arms. CROCHET BORDER: Crochet a border round neckline with crochet hook size 4 mm as follows: 1 dc in first st, * 3 ch, skip approx 1-1.5 cm, 1 dc in next st *, repeat from *-*. At the top of each side of split crochet a string as follows: 60 ch, turn and work 1 sl st in each ch on return row. Cut and fasten thread. |
